Okuama: It’s A Crime To Push, Slap, Or Kill Soldier, Says Comedian Ali Baba
Nigerian comedian Atunyota Akpobome, better known by his stage name Ali Baba, has denounced as very reprehensible the recent execution of seventeen Nigerian Army personnel in Delta.
In an interview with newsmen in Lagos, Akpobome denounced the conduct and said the brutal killing of the troops smelt of undermining social values.
The comedian claimed that the killing of troops demonstrated how inadequate moral teaching is in the country.
“Killing another human being is bad, the killing of anybody that works for an institution, especially an institution like the army that protects the people, is worse
“Overseas, when you are travelling, they (airport authorities) board the military personnel first as well as retired officers.
“What it means is that we need to begin to know our values totally in the country. This is unfortunate.
“You do not respect the military that protects you, you went ahead to then kill them, whatever the reason you have, it is a huge crime.
“You don’t kill a soldier man, you don’t even push him, slap him or resist an arrest. It is a crime,” the comedian, who is also from Delta, said.
He said anybody hurt by the misdemeanours of any public officers including soldiers is expected to take evidence and approach relevant authorities for redress.
However, Akpobome urged the National Orientation Agency, the Public Complaints Commission, and other organisations set up to ease tensions and regain public trust.
Biztellers could recall on March 14, at least 17 senior military officers and troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion were killed in an ambush that occurred in Okuama Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state. The soldiers and commanders had been sent to calm fighting between the Okuoma and Okoloba villages in Delta.
Renowned Yoruba actor Ganiyu Oyeyemi, famously known as Ogunjimi, has sadly passed away.
The news of his demise was shared by fellow Yoruba actor Kunle Afod via an Instagram post on Friday.
Afod expressed condolences and bid farewell to Ogunjimi, stating, “We tried our best but God loves you more. May his soul rest in peace. Baba Ogunjimi, RIP, Sun re oooo.”

The Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, has been plunged into mourning yet again with the untimely demise of veteran actor Zulu Adigwe.
The sad news spread rapidly across social media platforms on Tuesday, as fans and colleagues alike expressed their shock and sorrow.
The passing of Adigwe was confirmed by prominent movie producer Stanley Nwoko, who took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news.
In a poignant post, Nwoko bid farewell to the talented actor, writing, “Rest in peace, good actor.”
This tragic loss strikes the industry only two weeks after the devastating boat accident in Anam River, which claimed the lives of Junior Pope and three other Nollywood actors.
The actors were reportedly en route to a filming location when the tragic incident occurred.
Adigwe, renowned for his portrayal of fatherly figures in Nollywood productions, achieved acclaim for his memorable roles. Notably, he rose to prominence as Mr. B in the beloved sitcom “Basi and Company.”
Additionally, his presence graced the successful 2019 film “Living in Bondage: Breaking Free.”
While originally from Enugu State and spending his formative years there, Adigwe later relocated to Austria, where he completed his primary and secondary education.
Nigerian singer, Ric Hassani has shared his thoughts on the Afrobeats musical style.
He claims that over time, Afrobeats music has become significantly worse in quality.
He is of the view that the popular songs of today are “not very good music,” insisting that the hits of the past were excellent songs.
Recently, Hassani was featured on the Channels TV show Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka.
He said, “Afrobeats is Nigerian music. Our guys are top 10 and I feel like because of that the quality of music might stop dropping because more people want to get in. So the quality is really dropping.
“Back in the days, hit songs were serious music but now almost anybody is just coming in. Most of the hit songs in Nigeria now are not very good music. Back in the days it wasn’t like this. I feel like because we have been number one for so long, everybody is just dropping whatever they like and throwing money behind it.”
