Suspected Hoodlums Attack Ebonyi Electoral Official, Set Vehicle Ablaze
A former Permanent Secretary in Ebonyi State and current member of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Chief Boniface Mgebu, narrowly escaped death after suspected hoodlums attacked him along the Obubura-Enyida road in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 7 p.m. as Chief Mgebu was returning to his hometown, Noyo Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area, from Abakaliki.
His Hilux Jeep, along with cash, phones, and other valuables, was reportedly set ablaze during the attack.

While recovering at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, the visibly shaken Mgebu narrated his ordeal, revealing that two armed men targeted him with the intention of either hijacking his vehicle or kidnapping him.
“On my way from Abakaliki to my village, immediately I passed the junction before Polycarp Market in Izzi. I saw something like a mini roadblock. I slowed down towards the road.
“The next thing I saw was a young man who immediately and forcefully stepped into my driver’s side, struggling with the steering wheel with me,” he said.
“In the process, the second person opened the passenger door and entered with a gun, leaving me at the centre. I held the hand of the one who showed me the pistol. The other one was struggling to control the car’s steering and moving very fast to an unknown place.
“From the movement of the car, it was as if they noticed that some people had discovered that something was wrong. They now increased the speed of the car, and I was still struggling with the second person.
“The next thing I knew was that the car jumped into a ditch, and immediately, fire exploded. I don’t know if they ignited the fire or the car fuel ignited the fire. But how I survived and was brought to the hospital was a miracle,” he added.
Following the incident, Mgebu has reported the case to the police in Abakaliki and is seeking assistance from the state government.
“I have made entry at the Police Station in Abakaliki. Am also reaching out to my people, and calling on the State Governor to come to my aide in areas of my hospital bill and replacement of my car that was burnt to ashes with my vital properties inside the car that were also consumed by the fire,” he appealed.

The Senior Pastor of Freedom Life International Christian Center, Richard Tochukwu, has declared that gospel music possesses the spiritual capacity to transform Nigeria, describing it as a divine instrument capable of restoring hope and unity in the nation.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, the cleric said music inspired by God’s Word can positively influence Nigeria’s spiritual and socio-political landscape by promoting peace, comfort and moral revival.
According to him, gospel music goes beyond entertainment and should be seen as a ministry tool for national healing.

“Gospel music is not just sound; it carries power. When songs are inspired by Scripture, they can heal hearts, restore faith and redirect a nation toward righteousness,” he said.
Pastor Tochukwu made the remarks while discussing his latest worship single, “I Want To Pray,” a spiritually reflective song produced by Audio5.
He explained that the track was created to encourage believers to remain steadfast in prayer and maintain consistent fellowship with God.
The song draws inspiration from Luke 18:1, which urges believers to pray always and not lose heart.
A spiritual son of Paul Enenche, Pastor Tochukwu revealed that most of his songs are birthed from deep study of Scripture.
“Sometimes while studying or preaching from a passage, a melody begins to flow. The lyrics are drawn directly from the Word. Our songs are intentional; they carry the same message we preach,” he explained.
Reflecting on his journey, he recounted beginning as a drummer who also sang before discovering what he described as a divine instruction to minister through music.
“I realised that you don’t minister only through preaching. God made me understand that songs are another channel through which His Word can reach people. Every release is backed by Scripture,” he added.
Pastor Tochukwu currently serves in Lagos, combining pastoral leadership with music ministry.
