Governor Seyi Makinde has assured residents of Oyo State that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of students and teachers abducted during recent attacks on schools in the state.

Makinde gave the assurance on Wednesday while reacting to the incident under the headline “We Are Working Round the Clock”, stressing that his administration is fully committed to ensuring the safe return of all victims.

He said government security teams were working “round the clock” to track and rescue the abducted schoolchildren and teachers, urging affected families to remain calm despite the emotional strain caused by the incident.

The abductions reportedly occurred in coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, including Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esiele, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, where several students and teachers were taken away by gunmen.

The governor expressed sympathy with families of the victims, noting that the state government understands the pain and anxiety the situation has caused.

He also used the opportunity to call for unity, peace, and tolerance among residents, especially as Nigeria approaches another political season, stressing that political differences must not divide the people.

Makinde emphasized that leadership positions are temporary, while the state and nation remain permanent, urging citizens to prioritize collective security and development over personal or political interests.

Meanwhile, Muslim faithful who visited the governor during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration also prayed for the safe return of the abducted victims and for improved security across the state.

Security agencies are expected to continue coordinated operations as efforts intensify to rescue the abducted students and teachers and restore calm in affected communities.

YouTube has announced a major policy update aimed at increasing transparency on its platform, revealing that it will begin automatically detecting and labeling AI-generated content.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as part of a broader effort by the Google-owned company to address the rapid rise of synthetic media online.

Under the new system, YouTube will automatically identify videos containing significant photorealistic AI elements and apply a visible label to inform viewers that the content has been generated or altered using artificial intelligence tools.

This marks a shift from its previous approach, where creators were required to manually disclose the use of generative AI in their content.

The platform said self-reporting is no longer reliable due to the fast-paced evolution of AI technology.

If creators fail to indicate AI usage, YouTube’s detection systems will now step in to flag such content automatically.

However, the company clarified that flagged videos will not be removed or penalized, and labeling will not affect recommendations.

Creators who feel their content has been wrongly labeled will have the option to appeal the decision.

The update reflects growing concerns across the tech industry about misinformation, deepfakes, and the difficulty of distinguishing real content from AI-generated media as tools become more advanced.

YouTube joins other platforms adopting similar transparency measures as the digital landscape continues to evolve.

The Christian Association of Nigeria has expressed concern over the worsening economic hardship and insecurity facing Nigerians, saying citizens are tired of empty promises from leaders.

In a statement issued on Wednesday to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, urged leaders across the country to demonstrate sacrifice through honesty, compassion and commitment to the welfare of the people.

The association congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the celebration, describing Eid-el-Kabir as a symbol of faith, obedience and devotion to God.

CAN, however, noted that the festive period comes at a difficult time for many Nigerians struggling with rising living costs, insecurity and uncertainty about the future.

According to the association, many families now measure hardship through skipped meals, unpaid school fees, failing businesses and sleepless nights caused by economic pressure.

It added that insecurity has continued to force many farmers away from their farmlands, while small businesses are collapsing under harsh economic conditions.

“At a moment like this, the deeper meaning of Eid-el-Kabir becomes even more important. Sacrifice must not remain a burden carried only by ordinary citizens,” the statement read.

CAN stressed that leadership must reflect sacrifice through honesty, restraint, service and visible commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

The Christian body also urged leaders in government, politics, business and religious organisations to stop blame-shifting and focus on restoring hope and public confidence.

“Nigerians need hope they can see, not promises they no longer believe,” the association stated.

CAN further warned against allowing hardship to fuel ethnic, religious or regional divisions, noting that poverty, hunger and insecurity affect all Nigerians regardless of tribe or religion.

The association also called on privileged Nigerians, corporate organisations and public-spirited individuals to support widows, orphans, displaced persons and struggling families during the Eid-el-Kabir season.

CAN expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its present challenges through unity, justice, compassion and sacrifice, while praying for peace and renewed hope across the country.
