Two Suspected Human Traffickers In Jigawa

Two alleged human traffickers have been detained by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State.

This information was revealed in a statement given to DAILY POST by the state commandant of the NSCDC, Musa Alhaji Mala (CC).

The suspects, Dahiru Usman, 37, of Maje village in Roni LGA and Audu Sambo, 65, of Unguwar Dorawa village, Gwiwa LGA, he claimed, were apprehended on Wednesday.

According to Mala, the suspects were detained on Tuesday after hiring 12-year-old Hajara Audu Sambo as a domestic helper in Abuja and Katsina State.

He claimed that one of the suspects, Audu Sambo, the victim’s father, reported the matter to the NSCDC Divisional office in Gwiwa, alleging that he had attempted to get his daughter back through the agent (Dahiru Usman), but had been unsuccessful for the previous five months.

According to the State Commandant, the agent (Dahiru Usman) confessed to taking the girl to Katsina twice and keeping her there for about two years with the permission of her father (Audu Sambo), who used to receive N5,000 per month from the client in Katsina, after being questioned by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Command.

He confessed but denied being aware that the girl had been brought to Abuja to service another woman, according to him.

“I have taken four other girls aged 16, 14, 13, and 12 respectively to the same woman in Katsina, one Hajiya Maimuna and two to another lady, called Aunty Sadiya in Abuja.

“I got paid whenever I took girls to them and also from the parents when the girls return,” he confessed.

The state commandant for the NSCDC urged parents to stop employing young children as domestic helpers because doing so exposes them to exploitation and other social vices.

According to him, there is an inquiry going on and then there will be legal action.
