VDM Under Fire As Police Probe Unauthorized Use Of Uniform In Viral Video
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized use of police uniforms and insignia, condemning a recent video by content creator and social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as “Verydarkman” (VDM).
The Force disclosed this in a statement released via its X account on Saturday, condemning the video as an unauthorized portrayal that misuses official police attire.

In the video, which has since caused a stir online, VDM appears in attire resembling a Nigerian Police uniform, introducing himself as the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Online Division” and warning against being labeled an activist.
He described his mission as aimed at “sanitizing the social media space” and “speaking against injustice,” with a particular focus on challenging questionable practices by online vendors.
Responding to critics of his approach, VDM made it clear that his style would remain unapologetically blunt. “You can’t fight for Nigeria with respect; that is why I will continue to be disrespectful,” he declared.
The Police Force, disassociating itself from VDM’s portrayal, announced a comprehensive investigation to determine the source of the police gear featured in the video and under what circumstances it was obtained.
The statement reads “The Nigeria Police Force strongly condemns the unauthorized use of official uniforms and accoutrements by an online personality, Mr. Martins Otse, popularly known as “VDM,” in a video posted on his social media platforms.
“The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorized portrayal and has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted.
“It is important to remind the public that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, and is subject to strict penalties.
“While the Nigeria Police Force recognizes and supports the creativity of young Nigerians in the content creation space, we strongly caution against the misuse of Police uniforms or symbols.
“Unauthorized use of these items undermines the values and integrity of the Force and will not be tolerated.” It added
