What We Will Do If FG Release Nnamdi Kanu – Arewa Youths Warn
If IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu is freed, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, or AYCF, has outlined the next course of action it will take.
If Kanu is released, the AYCF forewarned, it will seek restitution for Northerners slain and their property ruined in the Southeast.
Kanu’s release, according to AYCF National President Yerima Shettima, would indicate government weakness.
Shettima told reporters that releasing the IPOB leader may be construed as a sign that the government was intimidated by him and that the security forces were overburdened.
He emphasized that if Kanu were released, his case would be used as a benchmark for crimes committed in the future.
He said: “Release Nnamdi Kanu because the Nigerian Government is afraid of him? Release him because Nigerian security has been overwhelmed by these criminals going about killing people like Northerners who go to that region to conduct their legitimate business? No, it’s not done in any society; all they need to do is to buckle up and face the monster.
“The law must take its full course as they go around unleashing terror on innocent Nigerians, including their own people, the law must be allowed to take its full course. If nothing is found on Kanu, he should be released, but I know it won’t be easy because he has said it and has taken such responsibility. We can’t be blackmailed, we are not cowards, and Nigerians can’t be cowards by a few individuals.
“If the government or the court, in their magnanimity, decide to find safe ground, they should bear in mind that they will demand that the lives of Northerners killed in broad daylight by these criminals be compensated.
“We already have files and documentation of Northerners killed and properties destroyed because we will demand compensation from the government for the people we have lost, billions lost; the government must be ready to pay.
“The government should just be aware that we will definitely come out to demand compensation; we will now know that we are in Banana Republic, where there is no law and order. We will always use this Nnamdi Kanu’s case as a reference point for any crime committed in the future; the government should be ready to take responsibility.”
Retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme have taken to the streets of Abuja to protest several months of unpaid pensions.
Coming from various state chapters, they voiced their frustration over the hardships they face due to PENCOM’s failure to pay their entitlements.
The retirees are calling on the Federal Government to exempt them from the contributory pension scheme.
In a video shared on social media platform X on Tuesday, the retirees were seen holding placards and chanting, “All we are saying, give us our right.”

Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who bravely battled breast cancer in 2019, has been struck with another health challenge.
The president’s office revealed in a statement on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
The statement said, “First Lady Asma al-Assad has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.”

The Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has submitted a list of Commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nominees are scheduled to undergo the screening process today, overseen by Assembly members loyal to the Governor.
In a public announcement, the Assembly invited the following individuals for screening and potential confirmation as members of the Rivers State Executive Council: Hon. Prince Charles O. The screening is set to take place on Tuesday, 21 May 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Hallowed Chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly, located in the Auditorium, Admin. Block, Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.
Nominees are required to bring twelve sets of their Curriculum Vitae (CV), along with the originals and photocopies of their credentials.
This process is a crucial step in the formation of the new executive council, which is expected to drive the administration’s agenda for development in Rivers State.
The Assembly’s prompt attention to the Governor’s nominees indicates a collaborative effort towards achieving the state’s developmental goals.
