‘Your Comment Is Hypocritical’ – APC Slams Obasanjo Over Criticism of Tinubu
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent remarks questioning President Bola Tinubu’s competence.
Obasanjo had reportedly claimed that Tinubu was “competing with Buhari in incompetence,” a statement the Lagos APC described as “laughable, hypocritical, and disgraceful.”
In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the APC accused Obasanjo of lacking the moral standing to criticize any leader, recalling what it described as the failures and controversies that marred his administration.

“It is ironic that a man whose tenure is remembered for political arrogance, squandered opportunities, and a failed third-term bid would label anyone incompetent,” Oladejo said.
The APC further alleged that Obasanjo left behind unresolved corruption, mounting debts, and unfulfilled promises despite heavy investments in the power sector.
The statement added that Tinubu’s policies—such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and tackling systemic inefficiencies—were “bold steps that past leaders, including Obasanjo, never had the courage to take.”
The ruling party also dismissed Obasanjo’s criticism as stemming from “bitterness and irrelevance,” accusing him of habitually undermining sitting presidents after leaving office.
“We advise the former president to show some restraint. Elders are expected to offer guidance, not agitation. If he has nothing constructive to say, silence would be more dignified,” Oladejo said.
He emphasized that President Tinubu is “not competing with Obasanjo or anyone else,” but is focused on reforms to put Nigeria on the path of recovery and renewal.
