Fani-Kayode Cautions Against Provoking Anarchy With #EndBadGovernance Protests

Published

on

Femi Fani-Kayode has made a clarion call to well-meaning Nigerians to exercise caution about the looming #EndBadGovernance protest, so that it doesn’t degenerate to anarchy or lead to bloodshed.

In a statement on his verified handle on X, on Friday, he maintained that those who want to protest should be careful to limit themselves to their constitutional rights, as nothing would bar government from maintaining law and order.

He urged the brains behind the looming protest to consider the ugly consequences of similar efforts in the past and nip their proposals in the bud.

Fani-Kayode prescribed, “The way forward is to put off the protest, exercise patience, enter dialogue with the Federal Government and express our collective concerns in a lawful, restrained, responsible and legitimate manner. Anything outside of that will be dangerous and counter-productive.”

No one, he cautioned should hide under the guise of #EndBadGovernance protest to provoke national strife.

Fani-Kayode wrote, “RE NATIONWIDE HARDSHIP PROTEST: A TIMELY WARNING.

“There is nothing wrong with a peaceful demonstration and a lawful legitimate protest.

“What is unacceptable is a premeditated attempt by a group of faceless individuals who are on the payroll of subversive elements to destabilise the country and incite people to violence and carnage. That is what this so-called #nationwidestrike that they have labelled as the #endbadgovernanceprotest is all about. Worse still there is a covert and subterranean attempt to provoke the security forces to open mutiny and rebellion against constituted authority and thereby truncate our democracy.

“Those that are behind it are attempting to take advantage of the undoubtedly enormous economic challenges in the land to create panic, fear, chaos and mass unrest with a view to provoking anarchy, mayhem and armed insurrection. This is unacceptable and no responsible Government will sit back and allow it to happen.

“I urge those that are behind this surreptitious, subterranean and sinister subterfuge to have a rethink and not spark off a reaction from the security forces that they will later regret. We do not want or need a nationwide #endsars-like round of protests and neither can we afford the attendant violence, strife, division, damage to property and bloodshed that comes with it.

“The way forward is to put off the protest, exercise patience, enter dialogue with the Federal Government and express our collective concerns in a lawful, restrained, responsible and legitimate manner. Anything outside of that will be dangerous and counter-productive. (FFK)”

The INEC IREV platform was introduced to enhance the credibility of elections and improve public trust by making results available online for verification.

In Edo State, this system is being closely watched due to the high stakes of the governorship race, which has been marked by strong competition between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Despite this impressive milestone, some results are still pending due to challenges in remote areas, technical issues, and disruptions at some polling units.

The INEC has assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure that all polling unit results are uploaded as soon as possible, urging patience and confidence in the process.
