Abuja School Guard Confesses To Killing Nurse, Toddler After ₦3m Ransom

Published

on

A tragic wave of shock swept through the Federal Capital Territory as a security guard, David Moses, confessed to the brutal killing of a school nurse and a toddler at Clear Hope Foundation Academy in the Dawaki area of Abuja.

The victims, identified as 55-year-old Chinyere Anaene and 14-month-old Nanenter Asher Yese, were declared missing on July 23.

Their disappearance sparked widespread panic among parents and staff before it was revealed that they had been kidnapped and murdered.

Moses, who was paraded at the Federal Capital Territory Police Command headquarters on Friday, admitted to plotting the crime alongside an accomplice, identified only as Sunday, who is currently on the run.

According to Moses, the duo had initially demanded a ransom of ₦250 million from the nurse’s family, eventually settling for ₦3 million even though the victims were already dead.

“What brought me here is that I killed a child with a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. Me and my friend, we demanded ₦250 million ransom. Later on, we settled for ₦3 million, which we collected,” he confessed.

Trouble allegedly began after the ransom was paid. A disagreement over how to share the money led Sunday to stab Moses and flee with the cash.

“I struggled and took myself to someone’s house and told the person what was going on. I didn’t say everything out of fear. But I later insisted on seeing the police so I could explain what really happened,” Moses added.

Moses narrated that Sunday, who hid in a toilet, ambushed and strangled the nurse after he lured her from her classroom. The duo then decided to kill the toddler as well, with Moses claiming he was pressured into bringing the child.

“I said no, the woman alone was enough. But he insisted. So, I went and brought the baby,” he said.

In a chilling twist, Moses admitted that the nurse had shown him kindness even on the day she was killed.

“She gave me ₦300 to buy food that day. She always helped me,” he added, expressing regret.

The revelation also exposed grave lapses in the recruitment practices of the private security firm that posted Moses to the school.

Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, a representative of the company, acknowledged that they failed to properly document Moses’ employment, including guarantor details.

“For us not to keep the record, I accept that it’s our fault,” he stated.

Principal, Others Arrested

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, disclosed that the principal of the school, two other guards, and the Chief Security Officer of the company have also been arrested.

“Despite killing the victims, the suspects demanded ransom under the pretext that they were alive,” the CP said. “Our operatives arrested Moses, who confessed to conspiring with Sunday Irimiya, still at large.”

Adewale confirmed that the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend Sunday, as investigations continue.

The arrest was one of several recorded during the agency’s nationwide operations, which resulted in major drug seizures across multiple states.

In Lagos, the NDLEA seized 8,725 kilogrammes of tramadol hydrochloride powder worth over ₦6.98 billion at Apapa Port. The shipment, which originated from India, had been declared as maize starch.

The agency also intercepted cannabis concealed in palm oil at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. The consignment was allegedly intended for Saudi Arabia, while two suspects were arrested in connection with the case.

In Ondo State, operatives destroyed an estimated 7,500 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on three hectares of farmland and arrested five suspects.

Other seizures were recorded in Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory, including large quantities of tramadol, Exol-5 tablets and cannabis.

A 70-year-old man, Alhaji Saleh Kasim, has been killed during a bandit attack on Gamji Village in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, while 27 abducted residents have been rescued by security forces.

The Katsina State Government disclosed this in a press release issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu.

According to the statement, about 40 armed bandits, led by a suspected gang leader identified as Kachalla Alhaji Bawa Kabir, invaded the community in the early hours of October 16, 2026.

The attackers reportedly arrived on 20 motorcycles, abducted 27 residents, mostly women, children and elderly people, and rustled six cows.

The government said Kasim was shot dead during the attack.

Following credible intelligence, troops of the 17 Brigade, working with local hunters and the Community Watch Corps, moved to block the attackers’ escape routes towards the Madaci forest enclave.

At about 6 p.m. on the same day, the troops engaged the bandits at Tashar Bawa forest and successfully rescued all 27 abducted residents.

The rescued victims were subsequently taken to the Machika Military Forward Operating Base for medical attention.

The statement added that joint security teams had commenced clearance operations to flush out the remaining members of the gang and prevent possible reprisal attacks on the community.

The Katsina State Government, under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents across the state.

Mu’azu commended the troops and community-based security groups for their swift response to the incident.

Two Suspected Bandits in Police Net in Katsina

Police Investigate Mutilated, Headless Bodies Found In Ibadan

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected bandits and recovered more than 150 livestock suspected to have been rustled at Gidan Mutum Daya in Kusada Local Government Area of the state.

The police also dismissed reports that bandits blocked the Katsina-Kano highway in the area, explaining that the temporary disruption of traffic occurred when security operatives moved the recovered livestock across the road.

The disclosure was made by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) and local vigilantes arrested the suspects during a routine patrol based on actionable intelligence at about 5pm on Thursday.

The suspects were identified as Abdulkadir Umar, (23) and Suleiman Baiti, (21).

“The Katsina State Police Command is aware of a false report circulating on social media alleging that armed bandits blocked the Katsina-Kano Highway at Gidan Mutum Daya in Kusada Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“The Command wishes to state categorically that this report is false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.”

“To set the record straight: On October 15, 2026, at about 5pm, members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and local vigilantes on routine patrol, acting on actionable intelligence, arrested two suspected armed bandits at Gidan Mutum Daya, Kusada LGA.

“Upon preliminary interrogation, both suspects confessed to belonging to a syndicate of armed bandits terrorizing parts of the state.

“Following their confession, at about 6pm on the same day, police operatives attached to the Kusada Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, mobilised jointly with the KSCWC and local vigilantes to a location identified by the suspects. The operation led to the successful recovery of over 150 suspected rustled livestock, comprising cattle, goats, and sheep, which were subsequently moved to a secure facility.

“During the movement of the livestock, vehicular traffic along the Katsina-Kano Highway was briefly halted by security operatives to allow the large herd to safely cross the road. Normal traffic flow was restored immediately afterward.”

The Command insisted that at no point was there an attack by bandits, a road blockade by criminals, or any threat to commuters.
