Davido Wins Five Awards At 2023 AFRIMA Awards

Award-winning singer, Davido’s music has become the most streamed on the online streaming platform sportify in the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada, and France.

This was revealed in a statement made by Victor Okpala, Spotify’s Artiste and Label Partnerships Manager for West Africa, on Tuesday.

According to Okpala, Davido’s songs have been included in over 10 million playlists created by Spotify users.

According to him, Davido’s fans’ appeal is hardly in doubt as the afrobeat star makes music that captures an elusive, exhilarating energy, and fans across the world have connected since his earliest releases.

“Data from Spotify shows that Davido is one of the afrobeats’ biggest exports.

“While undoubtedly adored at home, the United States is the single largest market for Omo Baba Olowo’s (OBO) music, with the vast majority of his plays coming from outside Africa.

“The United Kingdom, Nigeria, Canada and France round out the top four countries where his music is streamed.

“Davido is one of afrobeats’ truly global stars, and we are honoured to play our role in sharing his art and ethos with his dedicated fans in Nigeria and around the world,” he said.

Okpala said that Spotify also promoted Davido’s “Timeless” album on a billboard in New York’s Times Square, announcing the album to international audiences in one of the world’s most iconic public spaces.

He said the new release had been celebrated by fans and artistes alike, with many appreciating Davido’s ability to find cohesion within a body of work that plays host to diverse collaborators.

“Spotify is dedicated to showcasing the best of African content and talent and providing a platform to connect with and grow global fan bases.

“Davido’s global reach is a testament to his talent and the vast power and access that streaming offers,” Okpala said.

Responding to the video, she wrote, “This is wrong on all levels, and you should be ashamed of yourself for bringing this here. Bring it on. If you think she’s alone, let me tell you here that you’ll have to fight all of us.”

The media personality further vented her frustration in an Instagram story, urging women to speak out against the situation.

“I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong, and as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses you, it’ll touch your daughter or any female in your family,” she posted. “No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it, knowing what is happening, we would fight for her.”

Toke’s anger didn’t stop there.

On Monday, she shared another Instagram story, questioning 2Baba’s decision to make the divorce public at this particular time.

“Nobody is asking anybody to stay in a situation that’s not serving them any purpose anymore; by all means, leave if you must, but why bring this online this very moment?” she wrote.
