Ex-NFF President Files N2.3bn Lawsuit Against Davido
Brownhill Investments Company Limited, organizers of the yearly ‘Warri Again Concert,’ have filed a N2.3 billion lawsuit against hip-hop artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido.
The legal action pertains to an alleged violation of the agreement or contract between the two parties.
The lawsuit, identified as EHC/183/2023, was lodged by Brownhill Investments Company Limited, owned by former Nigeria Football Federation President Mr. Amaju Pinnick.
The filing took place at the Delta State High Court in Effurun.
The plaintiff, represented by its attorney Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, is seeking N2 billion in general damages from Davido and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.
Additionally, they are requesting the court to grant N150 million for legal and professional fees and an extra N30 million to cover the costs associated with filing the lawsuit.
It also wants the court to order the singer “to tender a public apology on all the 1st defendant’s social media accounts/handles and in two national daily newspapers for four consecutive days, to the claimant and attendees.”
According to the statement of claim, the plaintiff asserted that in early 2023, Davido approached Pinnick during their meeting at the Abuja Airport.
During this encounter, Davido expressed interest in being involved in the 19th edition of the ‘Warri Again Concert,’ scheduled for October 6, 2023.
The claimant noted that although Pinnick initially hesitated to entertain Davido’s request, he eventually agreed. The mutually settled performance fee for Davido was established at N70 million.
Following a payment of US$94,500.00 (equivalent to N70 million) on April 6, 2023, which was duly acknowledged by the defendants, Davido, despite creating a promotional video, ultimately failed to appear at the event.
The claimant incurred substantial costs for print and social media promotions. A week before the scheduled event, on September 29, 2023, a formal reminder letter, including the flight itinerary of a chartered private jet, was sent to Davido, incurring additional expenses of $18,000.
Despite numerous attempts to contact Davido and his team on the event day, October 6, 2023, all efforts proved futile.
The claimant kept the chartered private jet at the Lagos Airport on standby in case Davido and his team arrived.
As a result, Pinnick’s company is now seeking the payment of $94,500 as full compensation for engaging Davido’s services.
