Filmmaker Andy Boyo To Chronicle Fela Kuti’s Legacy In Groundbreaking Biopic
Acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Andy Boyo, known for his contributions to African cinema, has announced plans for a major biopic on the life of Afrobeats icon Fela Aníkúlápó Kútì.
Boyo, a key figure in Nigeria’s Directors Guild, has secured rights to Kuti’s music after three years of preparation and is slated to begin filming in 2025, with scenes to be shot in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The production, which Boyo will write, produce, and direct, is expected to be one of his most ambitious to date.
Insiders close to the project confirm that the film will feature a sprawling ensemble cast, including 27 actresses who will portray Kuti’s wives.
Boyo, celebrated for previous blockbusters like Untamed and Spirit of Assassins, is reportedly pouring significant resources into the film, which promises to highlight the breadth of Fela’s impact on music, culture, and activism.
For Boyo, the project is personal. “Fela has always been my passion,” he said. “I was expelled from Glorious College, Ibadan, for sneaking out to watch him perform at the University of Ibadan’s ‘Havana Night.’ Fela was my mentor; I admired his personality and music.”
The biopic will trace Kuti’s life and career, chronicling his evolution into the revolutionary “King of Afrobeats” who challenged the status quo through both his music and activism.
With Boyo’s deep reverence for Kuti and commitment to storytelling, the film is expected to set a new standard in African cinema and introduce the Afrobeats legend’s story to a global audience.
Anticipation is high for what promises to be a powerful tribute to Kuti’s legacy, blending history, culture, and music to honor one of Africa’s most influential figures.

According to sources, the autopsy revealed that one of the victims had an empty stomach, while the other had only a small amount of food — “almost as if he hadn’t eaten anything,” a source said.
Walter Odediran’s elder brother, Kola Odediran, confirmed that the family had received the preliminary autopsy report. He said: “The autopsy itself is complete, and no food was found in my late brother.
“The results indicate he did not eat anything. But they are going to carry out toxicology and histology tests, which will provide the definitive answers we are looking for.”
To determine the exact cause of death, experts will conduct additional tests on blood and tissue samples to find out whether the victims ingested or inhaled any harmful substances before their deaths.
These results are expected in two to three weeks.
Relatives of the deceased, as well as colleagues in the Nollywood industry, are awaiting the findings with bated breath, hoping the upcoming tests will shed light on the mysterious circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
