Grammy: Wizkid Fans Blow Hot Over Singer's Loss To Angelique Kidjo

Eunice Oluwafunmilayo

Wizkid’s fans were unhappy after the Nigerian Afrobeats singer lost both of his Grammy nominations in 2022.

For the Best Global Music Performance award, Wizkid’s Essence was defeated by Arooj Aftab’s Mohabaat. Made in Lagos, which had been nominated for Best Global Music Album, was defeated by Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature.

While Wizkid is yet to react to the awards, his army of supporters, dubbed Wizkid Fc, have taken to Kidjo’s social media profile to vent their frustrations.

The singer then deleted the comments section on her Instagram celebration post. As a result, Wizkid fabs took to her past posts to express their dissatisfaction with her.

Essence was released in October 2020 as the 11th single on Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made in Lagos, and features fast-rising sensation Tems.

Wizkid made history in July when his single Essence became the first Nigerian artist to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number nine in September.

In August, his album Made in Lagos debuted at number one on the Billboard World Album Chart.
