IPMAN Refutes Claims Of Closing Fuel Stations
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has refutes reports that its over 30,000 members will close their gasoline stations. He described the news as “fake news”.
Earlier, a memo from the Borno chapter, Mohammed Kuluwa instructing members to suspend services was been circulated.
Mike Osatuyi, National Controller Operations of IPMAN, spoke with newsmen on Tuesday over a phone call saying that “Fake news, Bad eggs and sabotage,” He further declared that the memo was a mistake.
The National President of IPMAN, Elder Chinedu Okonkwo, also spoke with news men stating that Kuluwa should not have released the statement attributed to him. “He should not have issued the statement. In fact, he has retracted it,” Okonkwo said.
In his initial memo, Kuluwa had directed IPMAN members in Borno State to halt ordering products until further notice.
The association said the decision followed, “the critical situation as it affect our sourcing and selling of product at lost (sic) and the action of the authority to impose the selling of product at a lost price (sic) on our side,” the first statement read.
However, in the retraction issued later, Kuluwa said, “Having met with the concerned authority, all filling stations should open with immediate effect. Continue selling while the association continues with further consultation and accordingly keep you informed.”
On Sunday, the Public Relations Officer of the Ibadan Depot, Mojeed Adesope, was reported to have made a similar announcement to Kuluwa’s, directing IPMAN members in Oyo State to cease buying products and shut down their stations. However, Mojeed denied issuing such a statement when contacted by newsmen.

A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State has resulted in significant damage to six vehicles, according to a statement from the Katsina State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024.
He explained that a loud explosion alerted police operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. Responding promptly, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the site, supported by military personnel.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated. The joint team acted swiftly, deploying measures to protect lives and limit property damage. Their efforts successfully extinguished the fire.
The spokesperson added, “Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost.”
State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has directed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. Updates on the findings will be provided as investigations progress.
This incident highlights the need for heightened safety measures at gas filling stations to prevent such occurrences.
