Lagos Fringe Festival To Honor Celebrity Couple, Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva
Two seasoned professionals in the Nigerian film industry, Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva, have been named honorees for the 2022 Lagos Fringe Festival.
The entertainment power couple, along with Ifeoma Fafunwa, will be honored with others at the festival’s fifth iteration in recognition of their long-term contributions to the arts, according to a statement from the organizers.
“It’s been five years of curating experiences, creating opportunities, expanding artists’ communities, developing skills, and building connections for the creative industry in Nigeria,” says the organisers.
According to the Programes Director, Tope Sanni, “We are super excited and looking forward to celebrating all the impact that we have made all these years. This six-day event will bring together key actors from across Nigeria to Lagos local professionals, curators, venue owners, filmmakers, and theatre enthusiasts.
“Another activity to look out for will be the highly successful musical play, entitled Ada the Country musical theatre features stars, such as Joke Silva, Bambam of Big Brother Naija fame, Chigurl and Kate Henshaw. There will also be other highly interactive events that will provide artistic and cultural engagements like workshops, joint performances, film, and media events as well as exhibitions, including opportunities of building connections with global creatives through peer-to-peer training to develop emerging artists and improve the professional ones. Also, the CEO of Brighton Fringe Festival, UK, Julian Caddy will be on hand for the masterclasses.”
The events during the festival will feature facilitators like MI Abaga, Cobhams Asuquo, Efe Paul, and Titilope Sonuga, among others, to engage in topical working forums and workshop discussions to highlight important topics, according to festival director Kenneth Uphopho.
At Freedom Park in Lagos, the main celebration kicked up on Tuesday, November 22, and will last until Sunday, November 27.
The Lagos Fringe, a non-profit continuing development effort and open-access interdisciplinary arts festival, was established in 2018 with the goals of enhancing artists’ quality of life and discovering fresh voices in the Lagos creative scene.
Lagos witnessed an electrifying night of Afrobeats excellence on December 23, 2024, as the Flytime Music Festival took center stage.
Headlined by Nigerian music powerhouse Olamide, the event brought together an impressive lineup of stars to deliver unforgettable performances.
Olamide, affectionately called “Baddest” by fans, captivated the audience with back-to-back hits from his extensive catalog, including fan favorites like Melo Melo and Duro Soke.
The night turned emotional when Zlatan Ibile joined Olamide on stage and knelt in homage, a moment that resonated deeply with the crowd.

The festival also showcased the generational impact of Olamide’s artistry.
Rising stars like Lil Kesh, Young Jonn, and Pheelz, who credit Olamide as a mentor, joined him on stage for a nostalgic display of talent.
Bella Shmurda, Fireboy DML, and Wande Coal also made show-stopping appearances.
A highlight of the night was the powerful duet between Olamide and Wande Coal on their hit song Kpe Paso.
Afrobeats royalty turned out in full force to support Olamide. Icons like Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Peruzzi, and Iyanya performed alongside emerging stars such as Magixx, Omah Lay, Orezi, Khaid, and Lojay, making the event a celebration of the genre’s past, present, and future.
CKay added extra flair by joining Olamide for a vibrant performance of their collaboration, Wahala, while Tiwa Savage brought her signature energy to the stage, keeping fans on their feet.
Backstage, entertainers Tunde Perry and Farulee added a dose of humor, further elevating the night’s excitement. Flytime Music Festival 2024 was more than a concert; it was a testament to the unifying power of music and a celebration of the global dominance of Afrobeats.
Nigerian music sensation Davido was recently seen engaging warmly with Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, at Tony Elumelu’s exclusive all-white party in Lagos.
The event, hosted by the prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist, gathered a star-studded assembly of celebrities, business leaders, and influencers.
The interaction between Davido and Ogulu drew significant attention, especially considering the previously reported tensions between Davido and Burna Boy.
