LP To Refund N25m Fee To Family Of Deceased Imo Gov Aspirant

Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has announced that the party will be refunding the N25 million nomination fee that was paid by the late Humphrey Anumudu, a governorship aspirant of the party in Imo State, to his family.

Abure disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, following a meeting with the newly elected National Assembly members of the party.

He assured that none of the newly elected members would defect to other political parties.

Humphrey Anumudu had purchased the Labour Party’s nomination form to contest the party’s primary for the November 11 governorship election in Imo State but unfortunately passed away last week.

Abure further explained that the decision to return the nomination fee to Anumudu’s family was made as a gesture of empathy and compassion from the party.

Addressing newsmen, he said, “You will recall that one of our aspirants in Imo State lost his life. I am pleased to announce to members of the public and members of the Labour Party family and his immediate family that the party will refund the nomination fee of N25 million that he spent.

“We feel that we need to do this the support the family and show leadership of compassion, of empathy and that is whet the Labour Party stands for.” he added.

JUST IN: Minors Freed By Nigerian Govt Arrive Presidential Villa

The minors who were just released by the Federal Government for their involvement in the end bad governance protest have arrived at the presidential villa, where they will meet briefly with government officials.

Recall that the Federal Government dropped the treason charges levelled against them for their participation in the protest that was held across the country.

However, a source within the presidency confirmed that the governors of Kano and Kaduna States are already on ground to receive the minors and thereafter hand them over to their respective families.

The source also noted that the meeting will commence by 2pm at the Auditorium in the State House.

Following the directive of the President, Bola Tinubu on Monday, the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had early Tuesday morning, took over the case file and notified the Federal High Court in Abuja of his decision to discontinue the case against the protesters.
