Mercy Johnson On Lifetime Medication After Surgery
Nollywood Star, Mercy Johnson-Okojie had revealed that she underwent a life-changing surgery after a cancer scare and is now on medication for the rest of her life.
During her show “Mercy’s Menu” episode, guest Joke Silva shared how she copes with her husband’s dementia with Lewy bodies and they discussed accepting and living with their situations.
It was at that point, the mother of four opened up to her senior colleague about having a similar situation which had seen her been placed on medication for a lifetime.
In her words: “Odi and I have actually been here and I have never discussed it where we had, like uhm, a scare.
“I had a cancer scare in quote and I had like my thyroid removed. And it was like a journey for us because we had kids.
“My last was six months at that time and then we kept on saying, “Okay, we have to understand that this is the new us, let’s go get the surgery done”.
“And then we got there, they said I was going to be on medication for the rest of my life and it was a reality that we had to sit down.
“You know, them giving me a timing and telling me you can’t miss your medication. Once you wake up that day, that’s the first thing. Telling me all of the side effects.
“So I’m reconciling with this you’re saying, it’s the truth. At the point you realise this is where we are, let’s grow from here, let’s live in this comfort zone.”
Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, at the age of 66.
Hassan reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling cancer.
The actor’s death was announced by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, in an emotional video circulating on social media.

In the video, Kira, who was visibly distraught, repeatedly said, “My daddy is dead,” as she announced the passing of her father.
The development came days after Kira and her sister, Haleemah, disclosed that the veteran actor had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
The sisters had appealed for public support as the family sought treatment options for their father.
Hassan was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language productions, where he established himself as one of the veteran actors with a long and influential career.
