Mohbad: Naira Marley, Sam Larry Regain Freedom
The Lagos State Police on Friday released Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley and Samson Balogun, widely recognized as Sam Larry.
Both celebrities were apprehended over accusations of being culpable over the death of Mohbad, but having fulfilled their bail conditions, the Police released them from custody.
Recall that rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad) died in mysterious circumstances in September, which attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesman in Lagos State, issued a statement on Friday in Ikeja confirming the release of Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and two others.
He wrote “Naira Marley and Sammy Larry, having met their bail conditions, have been released from custody,’’
The quartet had been brought before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on Oct. 6, facing charges related to the alleged involvement in the death of Mohbad, which led to their subsequent remand in police custody.
On Nov. 6, the court granted them bail amounting to N20 million, requiring three responsible sureties in a similar sum.
Magistrate Mr. Adeola Olatunbosun ruled that the defendants must surrender their passports and adhere to a weekly reporting obligation to the State’s Criminal Investigation Department at Panti, Yaba.
Born on Jan. 3, 1996, in Lagos, Mohbad passed away under mysterious circumstances on Sept. 12, 2023, with his burial taking place the following day.
The nationwide protests ignited by his death prompted the Lagos State government to issue an order for the exhumation of the body, initiating a coroner’s inquest.
Mohbad reportedly attended a concert in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Sept. 10, where he sustained injuries during a fracas.
The police questioned various individuals in connection to his death, including the late singer’s father, mother, sisters, brother, friends, wife, manager, and his childhood friend, Ibrahim Owodunni (Primeboy).
Naira Marley and Sam Larry were detained by the police over their alleged involvement in the singer’s death, with reports suggesting they had been bullying Mohbad.
The late rapper was previously signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records but departed from the label in 2022.
Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has been released from Kuje Prison following a court directive.
Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju disclosed this development on Tuesday, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”
The singer’s release came after an Abuja court granted him bail. This decision followed intense public pressure on the Nigeria Police Force, which led to his arraignment.

Prior to his release, Speed Darlington had petitioned Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, over his prolonged detention. He called on the DIG to comply with a court order directing his release or formal arraignment.
Justice M.S. Liman had earlier issued an order on December 23, 2024, mandating the police to charge the singer within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
Speed Darlington’s arrest stemmed from allegations he made against Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy. The singer accused Burna Boy of being involved in an immoral relationship with embattled U.S. rapper and music executive Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.
The situation has sparked widespread discussions, with many Nigerians expressing relief at Speed Darlington’s freedom while others continue to debate the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Following the donation, Cubana Chief Priest clarified that Bethel Okechukwu is not his brother, stating, “I have only one biological big brother & two kid sisters. They ain’t doing so bad.” He emphasized that he is not obligated to support his siblings financially and urged the public to verify such claims.
As of now, there are no credible reports indicating that Burna Boy instructed Bethel Okechukwu to take any specific actions towards Cubana Chief Priest after receiving the $30,000. The narrative appears to be centered around Burna Boy’s charitable gesture and Cubana Chief Priest’s subsequent clarification regarding his familial relationships.
