How I Influenced My Appeal Court Justice Wife To Help Colleagues – Sen. Bulkachuwa

After admitting to influencing his wife’s actions while she was the President of the Court of Appeal, former Nigerian senator Adamu Bulkachuwa has made his first public statement.

From 2014 to 2020, Zainab Bulkachuwa presided over the Court of Appeals. When she reached the obligatory age of retirement of 70, she left the court.

On June 10, Mr. Bulkachuwa boasted that he had violated his wife’s “freedom and independence” while she was the president of the appellate court in a speech at the 9th Senate’s closing session.

He bragged that he aided his colleagues in the Senate to obtain favour from his wife, who was superintending over the Court of Appeal that served as the final arbiter on appeals concerning electoral disputes in parliamentary elections in Nigeria.

“My wife, whose freedom and independence I encroached upon while (she) was in office, and she has been very tolerant and accepted my encroachment and extended her help to my colleagues,” said Mr Bulkachuwa, 83, during the senate’s proceedings.

However, Mr Bulkachuwa, in an interview with the BBC Hausa, said his words were taken out of context, saying Mr Lawan’s interruption prevented him from completing his thought.

According to the translation, the former senator said: “Well, I was not even allowed to finish, I just started with some words like thanking her, saying she was patient with me as she was (a) legal practitioner and I am a politician.

“I wanted to elaborate on the specific nature of the help she provided, as there exists a wide range of support that professionals in various fields, such as legal practitioners, doctors, or engineers, can offer in their respective roles.

“Note that this assistance does not involve any illegal or unethical activities.

“In my personal relationship with her, I have never imposed upon her professional autonomy or attempted to influence her judgment in handling cases or running her office. Such matters are not even discussed in our home.”

‘Lawan didn’t allow me finish my thought’, Bulkachuwa clarifies remarks about wfe.

The public’s confidence in the Nigerian judiciary has been further eroded by Mr. Bulkachuwa’s declaration from a week ago.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) denounced the lawmaker’s comments, and its president, Yakubu Maikyau, demanded that Mr. Bulkachuwa be contacted and put on trial.

Showunmi Urges South-East to Judge Tinubu by Projects, Not Propaganda

Published

on

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for 2027, has urged the South-East to assess President Bola Tinubu’s administration based on verifiable projects and measurable results rather than political propaganda.

Showunmi made the call in a statement posted on X on Saturday, urging Nigerians to evaluate the government’s performance based on infrastructure delivery, funds committed to projects and their impact on communities.

He said federal infrastructure initiatives targeting the South-East under Tinubu’s administration deserved serious scrutiny and factual assessment, adding that unfulfilled promises should continue to be pursued until the expected results were delivered.

“Our message is clear: We will not trade facts for propaganda, nor accountability for political loyalty!” he said.

The political figure challenged critics of the administration to provide evidence to support their claims, while urging those defending the government to present the projects and demonstrate their impact.

He also called on government officials to publish relevant figures, disclose project timelines and provide measurable results, insisting that no public official should be exempt from scrutiny.

According to Showunmi, the South-East deserves infrastructure that supports economic growth, including roads that connect markets, investments that create jobs and policies that expand economic opportunities.

He maintained that political representation must translate into tangible benefits for citizens, stressing that public office should deliver value to the people.

As part of his call to action, Showunmi urged Nigerians to scrutinise government records, challenge misinformation with evidence and demand the completion of outstanding projects.

He further called for public commitments to be matched by measurable delivery, arguing that leadership should be assessed by facts and results rather than political rhetoric.

Ending his statement with the slogan, “Asiwaju is a goal,” Showunmi called for accountability and greater inclusion of the South-East in Nigeria’s development.

Showunmi is associated with The Alternative and is a member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections.
