Napoli Set Transfer Market On Fire With Osimhen’s Price Tag
Napoli FC of Italy has slashed the price tag on their record-breaking Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen by €30m, thus dropping it from €150m to €120m.
President, Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis is quoted by global media as indicating a willingness to deal with potential suitors for the mercurial striker, this transfer window.
Football pundits are quick to note that this might be an indication of the direction in which Napoli would be going from next season or a test of the footballing world’s rating of their star striker.
Biztellers reports that when the price tag of Osimhen was pegged at €150m, it was considered as a move to deter other clubs from their priced asset.
Now the scramble for Osimhen’s signature can start in earnest.
Biztellers also reports that top European football clubs, like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Paris Saint-German, and Manchester United had expressed admiration for the Nigerian striker.
It was gathered that Manager, Manchester United, Erik ten Hag eagerness for a new striker for next season’s campaign would see them lead the chase.
Recall that the 24-year-old prolific striker had an outstanding 2022/23 season with the Naples Club, which saw him score 31 goals and provide five assists from just 39 appearances across all competitions.
The vital part he played in helping Napoli clinch their first Scudetto after a three-decade wait got the football world falling over themselves for his services, which could culminate to a mega move this summer, with top clubs queueing for his services.
Other English Premiership League (EPL) clubs reportedly interested the services of the Super Eagle include Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea.
Interestingly, Osimhen has expressed a desire to ply his trade in the EPL, though, he still three years left on his current deal with Napoli.
Osimhen on June 4 spoke about his future after Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria on the final day of the Serie A season.
He said, “For me, I don’t mind. The president decides and I will just go with the flow. This season has been brilliant for me but I feel motivated to do even more next season.
“Everything is possible. Just like when we started the season, lots of people didn’t believe in Napoli. If the president says we can win it, I believe it, everything is possible.”

Australian Tennis Champion, Max Purcell Faces Doping Suspension
Australian doubles champion, Max Purcell has been provisionally suspended after admitting to a violation of anti-doping regulations, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced on Monday.
The 26-year-old, ranked 12th in the world for doubles, confessed to using a “prohibited method” and voluntarily entered a provisional suspension beginning December 10.

The ITIA confirmed the suspension took full effect on December 12, stating, “Time served under provisional suspension will be credited against any future sanction.”
As a result of the suspension, the 26-year-old is banned from competing in, coaching at, or attending any tennis events sanctioned by the sport’s governing bodies.
This suspension rules him out of January’s Australian Open, where he was expected to be a strong contender.
Purcell’s career highlights include winning the 2022 Wimbledon doubles title with fellow Australian Matt Ebden and this year’s US Open doubles crown alongside Jordan Thompson.
In a statement, Tennis Australia clarified that the violation concerned a prohibited method rather than a banned substance.
“The International Tennis Integrity Agency confirmed the breach relates to the use of a prohibited method, rather than the presence of a prohibited substance.
“As the matter is currently under investigation, it is inappropriate to comment further at this time,” it said.
The ITIA did not provide further details regarding the breach but noted that investigations are ongoing.
This case comes amid increased scrutiny over doping in tennis. Recent incidents include Polish world number two Iga Swiatek and Italian top-ranked player Jannik Sinner.
Swiatek received a one-month sanction earlier this year after testing positive for a banned heart medication, though the violation was deemed unintentional.
Meanwhile, Sinner was cleared after twice testing positive for traces of the steroid clostebol, though the World Anti-Doping Agency has appealed the decision.
Both Swiatek and Sinner are set to compete in the Australian Open, beginning January 12.
