Naval Officers Shine At Wambai Golf Tournament
Officers and men of the Nigerian Navy (NN) took the spotlight at the Admiral Wambai retirement Golf tournament, at the Dolphin Golf Club, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos State.
This was made known in a statement by Competition Secretary, Admiral Wambai Retirement Kitty, Emmanuel Emogware, in Lagos on Tuesday.
According to Emogware, though more than 100 players comprising civilians and Naval Personnel both serving and retired participating, the Naval Assistant to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Lieutenant Commander, Nathaniel Uti emerged overall winner with a net result of 4 under par playing on handicap 19.

The Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Doctrine Command (NAVDOC) Rear Admiral HD Zakaria slightly missed the medals table with a 4th position finish with a net result of 1 under par result, playing off handicap 8.
On his part, Lieutenant Andrew Martins (rtd) won in the veterans’ category
The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MB Hassan who performed the ceremonial Tee Off, described the game of Golf as a good recreational activity for men and officers of the NN; both for serving and retired.
The celebrant, Admiral Wambai Rtd who was one time FOC, Western Naval Command, expressed gratitude for the event organised in his honour and corroborated the stance of Hassan, noting that to keep fit, it was imperative to embrace sporting activities such as Golf.
On his part, the Skipper of Rising Golf Club, Isichei Osamgbi who is also a Director at NIMASA urged stakeholders in the maritime sector to consider engaging in the game of Golf, noting that the game also provides opportunities for collaboration between various Agencies, while also encouraging private sector involvement in the operations of the Nigerian maritime sector.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Ciudad Rodrigo City Hall confirmed the teenager’s death and expressed condolences to the victim’s family.
“The city hall of Ciudad Rodrigo expresses its sadness and presents its condolences for the death of a boy of 13.”
The municipality described the incident as a devastating turn of events, saying: “What should have been a celebration of Spain’s team in the football World Cup turned into tragedy.”
Emergency services also confirmed that another youth was injured in the collapse, while several others sustained injuries as rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Local media reported that the fountain gave way under the weight of dozens of fans who had climbed onto the structure to celebrate Spain’s World Cup triumph.
The fatal accident cast a somber mood over celebrations across the football-loving nation, with many expressing grief just hours after Spain’s memorable victory on the world stage.
