Nigeria stunned Australia with a 75-62 victory in their opening game of the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament at Paris 2024.
The Nigerian team delivered a remarkable performance, exploiting Australian turnovers to secure the win before a packed crowd in Lille.
Nigeria closed the first half with an 11-0 run, establishing a 13-point lead at halftime.

The standout player was Ezinne Kalu, who returned to the national team for the first time since Tokyo 2020.
Kalu scored 19 points, collected 15 rebounds, and provided 15 assists, becoming the first Nigerian player to achieve a 15/5/5 game in the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament. She also set a new team record with four three-pointers in a single game.
Australia’s 26 turnovers were pivotal, as they handed Nigeria 26 points from those errors.
Australia spilled the ball a staggering 26 times in the game and that handed Nigeria a huge 26 points from turnovers.
It was a difference-maker and especially in the first half when they almost handed their opponents a point per minute from that source.
