Nnamdi Kanu: Comply with court judgement, S/East Senate Caucus tells Buhari

The South East senate Caucus has cautioned the Federal Government against proceeding to appeal the recent judgement by the Appeal Court which ordered the immediate release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The Caucus through a statement released in Abuja on Thursday urged the Presidency to utilise the opportunity presented by the Appeal Court ruling and consider political solution to resolving the lingering problem in the interest of the country’s unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.

The statement was signed by Senators Orji Uzor Kalu Majority Whip, Chukwuka Utazi Minority Whip, Enyinnaya Abaribe
Ucheche Ekwunife (Iyom), Stella Oduah, Sam Egwu, Obinna Ogba andT A Orji (Ochendo).
Others are, Senators Chimaroke Nnamani, Micheal Nnachi, Onyewuchi Ezenwa, Rochas Okorocha, Frank Ibezim and Patrick Ifeanyi Uba
The statement cautioned that resorting to the Supreme Court would ignite varied interpretations, which to all intents is injurious to the unity and corporate existence of the country.
“We should be mindful of our diversity and the strengths we as a country derive there from. This is the time to show magnanimity and statesmanship.
“The Appeal Court has provided the leeway for the authorities to walk the talk as ones desirous of preserving Nigeria’s unity and respect for her diversity.
“Not appealing the matter and resorting to political solution will in no way question the enormous powers of the federal government, rather it would enhance its prestige as a government in love with all segments of the Nigerian society.
“Accordingly, we as a Caucus and stakeholders in the Nigeria project appeal to Mr President, to remember the promise he made to a delegation of elders of Igboland sometime ago and release Nnamdi Kanu, especially now that the Appeal Court by that ruling removed the burden of interference from him. Going on Appeal would ultimately negate that kind gesture “, the Caucus said.
Retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme have taken to the streets of Abuja to protest several months of unpaid pensions.
Coming from various state chapters, they voiced their frustration over the hardships they face due to PENCOM’s failure to pay their entitlements.
The retirees are calling on the Federal Government to exempt them from the contributory pension scheme.
In a video shared on social media platform X on Tuesday, the retirees were seen holding placards and chanting, “All we are saying, give us our right.”

Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who bravely battled breast cancer in 2019, has been struck with another health challenge.
The president’s office revealed in a statement on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
The statement said, “First Lady Asma al-Assad has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.”

The Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has submitted a list of Commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nominees are scheduled to undergo the screening process today, overseen by Assembly members loyal to the Governor.
In a public announcement, the Assembly invited the following individuals for screening and potential confirmation as members of the Rivers State Executive Council: Hon. Prince Charles O. Bekee, Mr. Collins N. Onunwo, Hon. Solomon Eke, Sir. Dr. Peter N. Medee, Hon. Elloka Tasie Amadi, Hon. Basoene Joshua Benibo, Mr. Tambari Sydney Gbara, and Dr. Ovy Orluideye Chinendum Chukwuma.
The screening is set to take place on Tuesday, 21 May 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Hallowed Chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly, located in the Auditorium, Admin. Block, Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.
Nominees are required to bring twelve sets of their Curriculum Vitae (CV), along with the originals and photocopies of their credentials.
This process is a crucial step in the formation of the new executive council, which is expected to drive the administration’s agenda for development in Rivers State.
The Assembly’s prompt attention to the Governor’s nominees indicates a collaborative effort towards achieving the state’s developmental goals.
