NWFL Reschedules 2nd Stanza Kick-off Date for 2023/24 Premiership Season
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially adjusted the commencement date for the second stanza of the 2023/2024 Premiership season, pushing it back by two weeks.
A statement from the NWFL on Tuesday in Abuja explained that this shift was in response to unforeseen circumstances, which necessitated a modification to the highly anticipated resumption date for the second round.
Biztellers reports that the kick-off date was initially set for Wednesday, January 31, but is now scheduled for Wednesday, 14th February 2024.
It was gathered that the decision was deliberated by the league’s leadership, including the Board Members and diligent staff, aims to enhance the overall experience of the ongoing season.
Acknowledging the potential implications for team preparations and schedules, the NWFL extends a sincere apology for any resulting inconvenience.
Chief Operating Officer, NWFL, Modupe Shabi, expressed profound appreciation for the understanding and collaboration of all stakeholders during this strategic adjustment.
The statement assured of the NWFL’s steadfast in its commitment to upholding the pinnacle of excellence in women’s football and ensuring the success of the Premiership Season.
Additionally, the conclusion of January 10, 2024, marked the end of the seven weeks of action-packed first round, delivering thrilling encounters and showcasing the league’s potential talent pool and commitment to excellence.
First stanza’s statistics tell a compelling story of competitiveness, with a mix of 14 draws and six away victories underscoring the league’s dynamic nature. Fans witnessed 117 goals across the seven weeks, a testament to the skill and talent within the NWFL.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Akwa Ibom State.

The event featured a wide range of track and field competitions, including sprints, relays, long-distance races, high jump and long jump. The Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) torch tour continued through Edo State with the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa and the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Honorable Amadin Enabulele and Festival Ambassador, Patience Igbiti on hand to receive it.
The Festival Torch which commenced the tour of the nine mandate states of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Bayelsa State, is part of events the organisers are using to create awareness for the games which holds in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from April 1-8.

About 3000 Athletes will be competing for honours in 17 sporting events with an age restriction of not over 25 years of age.
