Peter Obi Celebrates Miss Universe 2024 First Runner-Up

Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria’s pride, has earned widespread recognition after securing the first runner-up position at the 73rd Miss Universe Competition held in Mexico City.

Adetshina’s remarkable achievement also marks her as the highest-ranking African contestant in this year’s pageant, showcasing her determination and resilience on a global stage.

The event’s grand finale took place at the Arena CDMX, where Adetshina and Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, stood as the last two contestants.

Ultimately, Theilvig was crowned Miss Universe 2024, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, while Adetshina claimed the prestigious first runner-up spot.

Adetshina’s journey to the Miss Universe competition was filled with challenges and triumphs. Earlier this year, she had to step back from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest despite reaching the final stages due to questions surrounding her nationality. However, her indomitable spirit led her to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, representing Taraba State, where she emerged victorious.

Peter Obi, Nigeria’s 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, praised Adetshina’s inspiring journey in a statement shared on X.com. “I followed, with keen attention, the journey of our Nigerian beauty queen, Chidimma Adetshina, and her rise to stardom. I can only describe her journey as a demonstration of resilience, perseverance, and dedication,” Obi stated.

Highlighting her significance as a beacon of hope for Nigerian youths, Obi added, “In these challenging times for our nation, she stands as a symbol of hope, especially to our youths confronting various obstacles in their journey to greatness. Her story is a testament to never giving up; success lies ahead.”

Adetshina’s rise to international prominence comes as a testament to her unwavering resolve and serves as an inspiration to countless individuals across Africa. Her journey reflects her ability to overcome personal and societal barriers while holding onto her dreams.

In a show of continued generosity, Nigerian music icon, Davido has announced plans to mark his birthday this year with a ₦300 million donation to orphanages and a charity dedicated to combating drug abuse and addiction among young people.

The award-winning artist, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the announcement on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Once again, my birthday this year, we are donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse and addiction. This year, it’s ₦300m. Details to follow soon.”

This philanthropic gesture reinforces Davido’s long-standing commitment to giving back to society, particularly to vulnerable groups such as orphans and at-risk youth.

Earlier this year, in February, he donated ₦300 million to orphanages nationwide. In November 2021, the singer marked his 29th birthday by contributing ₦250 million to 292 orphanages.

Additionally, in July 2023, Davido extended his generosity with a ₦237 million donation to over 400 orphanages.

Nigerian disk jockey and music star, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has proclaimed herself a “wife material.”

Wizkid Breaks Spotify Records With ‘Kese (Dance)’ Release

Afrobeats sensation Ayodeji Balogun, known globally as Wizkid, has set new records on Spotify Nigeria with the release of his latest single, “Kese (Dance).”

The track, which dropped earlier this week, has already garnered an impressive 1.57 million streams on its opening day, surpassing the previous record of 1.016 million held by his collaboration with American R&B artist Brent Faiyaz, “Piece Of My Heart.”
