Prosecutor Reveals Mendy’s Claim Of Sleeping With Over 10,000 Women
Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy’s ongoing re-trial case on two rape-related charges took an unexpected turn as Benjamin Aina, a lawyer for the prosecution, informed jurors at Chester Crown Court in the UK that Mendy claimed to have been involved with more than 10,000 women.
During the opening of the trial, Benjamin Aina, the prosecution’s lawyer, revealed that Benjamin Mendy, the Manchester City defender, allegedly made a statement to a girl he met at a bar in the UK.
According to Aina’s testimony, Mendy reportedly said, “It’s fine, I’ve had sex with 10,000 women,” before the alleged rape took place in his room.
Mendy, a World Cup winner and French international, is currently facing trial for one charge of rape and one charge of attempted rape.
It is worth noting that in January, the 29-year-old footballer was acquitted of seven counts, including charges of rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault, by Judge Steven Everett of the same court. Mendy’s last appearance for Manchester City was in August 2021.
In the previous trial, the jurors were unable to come to a verdict regarding one count of rape and attempted rape involving two women.
As a result, Matthew Conway, representing the prosecution, requested a re-trial specifically for these two charges. The re-trial commenced earlier this week.
Benjamin Mendy, the footballer in question, maintains his denial of both charges.
The allegations against Mendy state that he attacked a 24-year-old woman at his residence in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2020. Additionally, he is accused of assaulting and attempting to rape another woman, aged 29, at the same house two years prior.
Ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland, England faces a significant disciplinary dilemma.
Five players—Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Kobbie Mainoo, Kieran Trippier, and Conor Gallagher—are on the verge of suspension, each having received one yellow card during the tournament.
If any of these players should be booked again during the match, they would be suspended from the semi-final, should England advance.
Adding to England’s challenges, manager Gareth Southgate will be without Marc Guehi, who is suspended after receiving his second yellow card in the match against Slovakia.
Despite these setbacks, England secured their place in the quarter-finals with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Slovakia on Sunday, highlighted by Jude Bellingham’s stunning overhead kick and Harry Kane’s late header.
Gareth Southgate’s team, pre-tournament favorites, has had a mixed campaign so far. They began with a nervy victory over Serbia and then drew with Denmark and Slovenia, yet managed to top Group C and move into the easier side of the draw.
Now, they face Switzerland, who eliminated European champions Italy, in what will be their toughest test yet.
The quarter-final match against Switzerland will take place in Düsseldorf on Saturday. If England succeeds, they will face either the Netherlands or Turkey in the semi-finals.
However, the potential suspensions of Bellingham, Foden, Mainoo, Trippier, and Gallagher loom large over the match.
Euro 2024 is set to enter its gripping quarter-final phase, featuring a clash of football titans from across the continent.
Following the conclusion of the round of 16, the stage is now set for an exhilarating lineup of matches.
