Speed Darlington To Turn Detention Experience Into New Music
Controversial singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, has revealed that his recent arrest will serve as inspiration for his upcoming music.
During a live stream on social media, Speed Darlington said, “Watch out for my new music. I have been looking for topics to sing about. Topics are now many.”
He shared details of his experience in police custody, claiming he was mistreated by officers. However, he clarified that he holds no personal grudge against Burna Boy, who was involved in his arrest.
“Let me just be direct, I have no beef with Burna Boy. I and Burna Boy are not quarrelling, nor are we enemies. It is the Nigeria Police that did me dirty. They are still withholding my phone at the moment, and I do not have access to it,” he stated.

Darlington was arrested on October 4 following a petition filed by Burna Boy, accusing him of defamation and cyberstalking. The arrest stemmed from a video in which Darlington suggested that Burna Boy’s connection to American rapper Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, implied a possible sexual relationship. Diddy had recently been arrested by the FBI on charges of sexual exploitation and abuse.
However, Darlington was released on October 8, 2024, after receiving support and pleas from his fans and mother.
In a statement released shortly after his arrest, the singer’s lawyer, Stan Alieke, had said, “Our client who many have come to know as a ‘joy-giver’ made the video in question purely for laughs and for its entertainment value, with no intention to malign or defame. Our client was only exploring his comedic side, and while the content may have been interpreted as extreme, it was never meant to harm or put a stain on his colleague’s reputation. He did not foresee the level of public attention the video would attract. Our client has privately reached out to his colleague and his team in the spirit of brotherhood and extension of an olive branch and to offer further clarification in person to him.”
In a recent online exchange, social media personality Saida Boj publicly criticised Egungun’s wife, for defending her husband’s leaked private videos.
Saida, known for her outspoken nature, did not hold back, addressing the woman’s alleged emotional struggles linked to her husband.
“You suffered with a man doesn’t mean you should k!II yourself because of the man,” Saida stated in a post that quickly went viral. “I hate when a woman disgraces herself,” she added, emphasising her disapproval of what she perceives as a lack of self-respect in the situation.
