Spyro’s Church Performance In Lagos Stirs Outrage
Nigerian artist Oludipe David, Popularly known as Spyro has stirred varied responses with his performance at the Harvesters International Gospel Center’s Christmas carol service in Lagos State.
According to details from the event flyer, the event was attended by notable personalities such as Daniel Effiong, Bisola Ayeola, Dorathy Bachor, Sharon Ooja, Uzor Arukwe, Adeh Gbolahan, and Kenneth Ophopho.
However, the decision to include a secular artist in a church event has faced criticism from many individuals.
Social media platforms have become a hotbed for criticism, with Nigerians expressing concerns about the suitability of having these artists perform in a religious environment.
The decision made by Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the lead preacher at Harvesters International Christian Center, to include these artists in the event has ignited debates and discussions among attendees and online users, drawing a range of opinions.
An X user said @Shilehorlar1, tweeted,”Funny how we’ve left holy vessels in the hands of unworthy people.
“I am not judging anyone, but if this menace is not addressed they will soon start to invite stripp*rs to church and find a justification 2 it. It takes a saved to save a drowning person can’t save anyone”.
Another tweep identified as @Obiasogu David, while airing his opinion tweeted, “Lovely how Nigerian churches are devising creative ways to “win souls.”
A social media user identified as @Marki on Twitter while reacting to the development tweeted, “It’s easy to spot fake pastors using Jesus name for their own selfish gains and bodily satisfaction.”
Sharing similar opinion, @Wal^ker, tweeted,”This is the reason I don’t go to church.. how can churches b inviting worldly music into churches”
Another tweep identified as @Obiasogu David, while airing his opinion tweeted, “Lovely how Nigerian churches are devising creative ways to “win souls.”
“The other day, Celestial Church invited Portable to “minister” to their members. Now, it’s Spyro.
“Odumodublvck and Shalipopi should be warming up, soon they’ll be headlining a crusade together to minister their hit song “Cast.” I’m sure heaven will be let loose and anointing will pour when they take the mic.Hope this helps”.
Sharing a different opinion, a tweep identified as @Enioluwa.V.A. tweeted,”People that have never heard/listened to Pastor B teach are the ones with the most smelly takes.
“Spyro is a worker in the church, Skales participated in the last Bible Foundation course, what makes them less human to perform in the carol?Y’all have knotted bolts in your head.”
This follows a series of controversies surrounding the appearance of well-known Fuji singer Pasuma and controversial Nigerian artist Portable at a Celestial Church in Lagos State.
Also, Pastor Bolaji Idowu had previously made headlines for his involvement in a skit alongside BBNaija star Dorathy, created by popular Nigerian skit maker Mr. Macaroni.

Eloswag, a former contestant on Big Brother Naija Season 7, has broken his silence following the release of his private video online.
The reality star reportedly uploaded a clip featuring himself and an unidentified woman on his Snapchat account at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Though Eloswag swiftly deleted the video, it had already caught the attention of the internet.
The explicit content quickly gained traction after being reposted by the controversial gossip blog, Gistlover, sparking widespread conversations across social media platforms.
In response to the incident, Eloswag took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration and consider possible legal action.
