ICPC Releases D’banj On Self-recognition The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has released popular musician, Daniel Oladapo aka D’banj. D’banj’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, shared photos of the freed singer on his Facebook page on Friday. He wrote, “D'banj released on self recognizance after ICPC could not find anything incriminating on him. He is clean. It is an embarrassment to the entire country that such a huge allegation of 900m Naira without any evidence, yet made public unconfirmed. The Chairman and entire officers of ICPC must be deeply sad and embarrassed also that their decent organisation was used for such shameful publicity against an innocent man.” -Pelumi Olajengbesi

Rector, Acting Bursary Arraigned For 6M Fraud The Rector of International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Samuel Timi Johnson has been arraigned for his connection in a Six Million Naira (N6,000,000) fraud. He is arraigned along with the Acting Bursar, Werepere Martins Degbegha as well as one Yerikema Tony Tombra. This disclosure was made in a statement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)’s spokeperson, Mr Azuka Ogugua on Wednesday. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) brought the defendants before Honorable Justice M.A. Ayemieye of High Court 2, sitting in Yenagoa, on charges of conspiracy, making false statements, and using office to advance corrupt interests. In a seven-count complaint, the ICPC accuses the Rector and the Acting Bursar of conspiring and abusing their positions to enrich themselves when they withdrew the aforementioned sum from the institute's funds under the pretense that they would use it to renovate a viewing center in the Tropani Community, despite the fact that the investigation later revealed otherwise. Yerikema Tony Tombra, on the other hand, is facing trial for knowingly making a false statement to a Commission officer while performing his duties when he (Tombra) claimed he was not in the office when he was, in fact, in the office. Their violations of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000's sections 19, 25, and 26 carry penalties. When the charges were read for the accused, they all entered a plea of not guilty. Additionally, they pleaded with the court to release them on bail with the same restrictions that the ICPC had previously set for their administrative bail, which the ICPC's legal counsel did not object to. As a result, they were granted bail with the proviso that their attorney signed an agreement promising to represent them in court during their trial. The case was postponed until the 30th of January 2023, when the hearing would begin.
