Iyabo Ojo Politicised Mohbad’s Passing As Protest Against Naira Marley – Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti Accuses Peter Obi Of Wrecking Anambra State's Economy

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has charged that Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo politicised Nigerian artist Mohbad’s passing in an effort to undermine his former record label owner, Naira Marley.

He made the accusations in response to Ojo’s assertions that he is “confusing” the young people by calling the controversial self-described social media activist VeryDarkMan “a necessity,”

According to Kuti, Ojo’s activism was directed towards Naira Marley rather than obtaining justice for the late musician.

Speaking in a video message shared via his Instagram account, the Afrobeat singer said: “I have watched your video, Iyabo [Ojo] but throughout the video you’re just talking about what VeryDarkMan did yet you said I was the one you were calling out.

“But there is one thing that I hold onto, you said I’m a confusionist confusing the youths. [Yoruba] This life is wicked. I’ve been on your podcast before because I bear you no grudge. I bear you no ill will. I stand personal beef. But when it’s political… It was you guys who politicised the death of Mohbad.

“You politicised his death. And I don’t believe you guys politicised his death because you were looking for justice because now what’s the findings? Did you accept the government’s findings? I read somewhere that the government said Mohbad died of substance abuse. If you guys believe the government findings, what are we doing? Justice for what?

“I believe personally, it was a movement against Naira Marley at the end of the day. I don’t see anything other than that. You said we are fighting against bullying in the Nigerian society and 70-80 per cent of celebrities are cultists.

“These are gangs of bullies. Bullies bullying everybody yet everyone is their friend. The gangs constantly bully people and celebrities are their members.

“Everybody is a friend of these members, nobody called them out for associating with gangs even after what happened to Mohbad. What’s happening? Is there any movement against confraternities in Nigeria? Where is the movement for justice for Mohbad now?”

Seun Kuti Accuses Peter Obi Of Wrecking Anambra State's Economy

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has openly challenged Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo to take legal action against him, following accusations linking him to controversial social media figure VeryDarkMan.

Ojo had accused Kuti of supporting VeryDarkMan’s disruptive online behaviour, labeling him as a ‘confusionist.’

In response, Kuti vehemently denied these claims, instead branding Ojo as an ‘oppressor.’ He clarified his stance, asserting that he never opposed Ojo’s confrontations with VeryDarkMan but cautioned against using police intervention to stifle free speech.

In a defiant video message posted on his Instagram account, Kuti addressed Ojo directly, stating, “I am not a confusionist. I merely suggested that you should not resort to arresting people.” He further admonished Ojo, “If you are angered by my stance against police oppression, feel free to exercise your power. Go ahead and arrest me. But remember, your actions could have explosive consequences in Nigeria.”

Kuti concluded the message with a pointed jab, urging Ojo not to abuse her influence, followed by a dismissive gesture and the word “nonsense.”

Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has hit back at critics after facing mockery over her involvement in the Lekki Wives reality show.

The incident began when a user on X (formerly Twitter) questioned Dominic’s decision to participate in the show, suggesting that such a role was beneath her status in the film industry.

The critic’s post read, “There are certain projects your brand should outgrow, because why is Rita Dominic in Lekki Wives or whatever it is called? Common.”

In a poignant response, Dominic, known for her extensive and acclaimed career in Nollywood, addressed the criticism by emphasising the importance of artistic integrity. She advised fellow actors to disregard such negative comments and continue to pursue their creative endeavors without hesitation.

“Dear Actors, only people who have no single drop of artistic integrity speak like this. If you listen to them you will soon begin to believe you are more important than the industry that birthed you,” Dominic wrote.

She further encouraged her colleagues to embrace any platform that allows them to express their creativity and hone their skills, regardless of public opinion.

“You are an ACTOR, so make sure to find a way or platform to release the creative energy in you. Continue to hone your skills regardless of empty comments like this because knowledge is never-ending – yours truly, Rita.”

Dominic’s response highlights her commitment to her craft and her belief in the limitless nature of artistic growth. Her stance has garnered widespread support from fans and fellow actors alike, who praised her for standing up against the detractors and promoting a message of perseverance and dedication to the arts.

This episode underscores the ongoing conversation about the roles and choices actors make in their careers and the importance of staying true to one’s artistic vision amidst external pressures.
