Tuchel Eyes England Manager’s Role After Southgate’s Resignation

Published

on

Thomas Tuchel has expressed strong interest in succeeding Gareth Southgate as England’s manager following Southgate’s decision to step down in the aftermath of Euro 2024 disappointment.

Tuchel boasts a track record of winning trophies in England, France, and Germany during his managerial career, notably clinching the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.

Southgate consulted with the FA, his close circle, and friends following England’s defeat in the Euro final before announcing his resignation from the role of England men’s national team manager.

His contract, originally set to expire in December, had discussions for an extension by the FA to lead the team into the 2026 World Cup, though Southgate had reservations about continuing for another decade.

After England’s Euro 2024 final loss to Spain, Southgate remained uncertain about his future, stating it was not the right time to make decisions.

Despite England’s progress to the final, their performance in Germany was underwhelming, winning just one group game and narrowly avoiding elimination against Slovakia and Switzerland.

While the FA had hoped for Southgate to continue, several names are already circulating as potential successors for the 53-year-old manager.
