We Are Aware Of Chef Dammy’s Cooking Marathon – GWR Affirms
The Guinness World Records (GWR) has been notified about Damilola Adeparusi’s endeavor to set a new record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Alina Polianskaya, the public relations executive at GWR, verified this information to newsmen on Thursday.
This confirmation follows the completion of a 120-hour cooking marathon by Adeparusi, a 26-year-old chef known as Chef Dammy, in Ilupeju, a town located in Ekiti State.
The GWR also debunked the claim that the chef’s effort was in vain as she did not apply before attempting to break a record. “We are aware of Chef Dammy’s cooking marathon,” the organisation stated. “It is possible to submit evidence after a record attempt has been completed.”
Polianskaya said there was no waiting time to break an existing record and added that it was possible for people to break their own records.
This means Chef Dammy can become the next record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual if GWR receives and ratifies all the evidence.
It also means she can still break the same record again if she wants to do so.
Recall, Nigerians received Chef Dammy’s attempt to break this record with mixed feelings when she kicked off her cooking on June 9.
While many hurled a barrage of insults and condescending remarks at her, others urged her on with words of encouragement.
These mixed reactions were not unexpected because between May 11 and 15, Hilda Effiong Bassey, a 26-year-old celebrity chef, cooked non-stop for about 100 hours in Lagos State.
With a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes, Bassey, popularly called Hilda Baci, is the latest world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
The GWR confirmed Baci as the record holder on June 13. This means as of June 9, she was still awaiting an update from the body on the evidence she had submitted.
So, at a time Baci and many other Nigerians were waiting for the GWR’s verdict, it was not unusual that social media would be abuzz when the news of Chef Dammy’s cooking goal went viral.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Chef Dammy, a 300-level mass communication undergraduate at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), defied all odds and successfully achieved her goal of completing a 120-hour cooking marathon on June 13.
During an interview with BBC Yoruba, Chef Dammy clarified that her intention behind the cooking marathon was not to break any Guinness World Record or to rival Hilda Baci.
She said: “I just did it because I enjoy cooking. It makes me happy”

CKay added extra flair by joining Olamide for a vibrant performance of their collaboration, Wahala, while Tiwa Savage brought her signature energy to the stage, keeping fans on their feet.
Backstage, entertainers Tunde Perry and Farulee added a dose of humor, further elevating the night’s excitement. Flytime Music Festival 2024 was more than a concert; it was a testament to the unifying power of music and a celebration of the global dominance of Afrobeats.
Nigerian music sensation Davido was recently seen engaging warmly with Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, at Tony Elumelu’s exclusive all-white party in Lagos.
