ABUJA – Department of Petroleum Resources ( DPR), has sealed off 30 filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi States, between January this year to date, due to various offences.

The Zonal Operations Controller in charge of the states, Alhaji Umar Moriki, disclosed this in Sokoto, at the 2013 annual petroleum products marketers’ meeting held at the conference hall of Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, Sokoto.

He explained that some of the offences which led to the closure of the filling stations were under-delivery, selling above government- approved pump prices and dilapidation of structures, among others.

We have sealed off 30 petrol stations in Sokoto, Kebbi states - DPRMoriki said the affected filling stations included those of independent and major marketers.

The DPR controller further disclosed that the department had uncovered 30 illegal filling stations in the two states, some of which had been completed while the construction of others were still ongoing.

He said 20 of them were in Kebbi State while the remaining 10 were located in Sokoto State.

The DPR official expressed dismay that the illegal constructions were being perpetrated by marketers who were aware of the statutory requirements.

Moriki also warned petroleum stations proprietors against condoning some acts of cheating by their pump attendants, to the detriment of the consumers.

“Reports reaching us indicate that pump attendants are of the habit of surcharging the public’, he lamented.

Moriki used the meeting to remind the marketers that the price of PMS and DPK were being regulated and the federal government had fixed their prices at N97 and N50,respectively.

He therefore warned the marketers to desist from selling these products above the government stipulated prices.

In a strategic move to revitalize Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, the Federal Government has unveiled two key fiscal incentives aimed at attracting investment and enhancing energy security.

The announcement was made by Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on Wednesday.

The first initiative, the Value Added Tax (VAT) Modification Order 2024, introduces critical exemptions for essential energy products and infrastructure, including Diesel, Feed Gas, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Electric Vehicles, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructure, and Clean Cooking Equipment.

These exemptions are designed to reduce living costs for Nigerians, promote energy security, and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy alternatives.

The second initiative, the Notice of Tax Incentives for Deep Offshore Oil & Gas Production, offers new tax relief options for deep offshore exploration projects.

This measure aims to position Nigeria’s deep offshore basin as a premier destination for international oil and gas investments, boosting the country’s appeal to foreign investors.

These reforms are part of a broader set of policy initiatives, known as Policy Directives 40-42, endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The directives reflect the administration’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in the energy sector and enhancing Nigeria’s competitive edge in the global oil and gas market.
