Will Smith Describes OSCAR Slap Incident ‘Horrific Night’

Prior to the release of his new movie, “Emancipation,” American actor Will Smith recalled a “memorable” moment from the Oscars night when he won his first-ever Oscar and the contentious slap that nearly ended his career.

The talented actor spoke about his newest film on Monday night’s episode of Trevor Noah’s “The Daily Show,” hoping that the argument between him and Chris Rock wouldn’t have an impact on how the audience would react to the new release.

“The idea that they might be denied because of me,” said Smith as he groaned.

“That is killing me dead … I hope that their work will be honored and their work will not be tainted based on a horrific decision on my part.

“The people on this team have done some of the best work of their entire careers, and my deepest hope is that my actions don’t penalize my team. At this point, that’s what I’m working for.”

When asked exactly what transpired on the eventful Oscars night, Smith described it as ‘horrific’ adding ‘he lost his cool’.

Smith explained a childhood history he felt might have greatly contributed to his outburst, saying:

“It was a lot of things, it was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother. All of that just bubbled up in that moment. That’s not who I want to be …”

Noah interjecting said: “That’s not who you are. I think everybody can make a mistake.”

After wiping his eyes and regaining his composure, Smith continued: “That was a horrific night, as you can imagine.

“There’s many nuances and complexities to it. But at the end of the day, I just – I lost it, you know. I guess what I would say is that you just never know what somebody’s going through.

“I was going through something that night, you know? Not that that justifies my behaviour at all.

“I understand how shocking that was for people … I was gone. That was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time.”

Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock across the face at the 94th Academy Awards in March in retaliation for a joke Rock had made about Smith’s wife’s shaved head.

Rock might not have been aware that Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia.

Smith later apologized to Rock and the Academy after winning the best actor award for his portrayal of King Richard, a tennis drama, an hour later. For ten years, he was barred from all Oscar-related functions.

According to sources, the autopsy revealed that one of the victims had an empty stomach, while the other had only a small amount of food — “almost as if he hadn’t eaten anything,” a source said.

Walter Odediran’s elder brother, Kola Odediran, confirmed that the family had received the preliminary autopsy report. He said: “The autopsy itself is complete, and no food was found in my late brother.

“The results indicate he did not eat anything. But they are going to carry out toxicology and histology tests, which will provide the definitive answers we are looking for.”

To determine the exact cause of death, experts will conduct additional tests on blood and tissue samples to find out whether the victims ingested or inhaled any harmful substances before their deaths.

These results are expected in two to three weeks.

Relatives of the deceased, as well as colleagues in the Nollywood industry, are awaiting the findings with bated breath, hoping the upcoming tests will shed light on the mysterious circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
