Naira Marley Owed Mohbad Money Before His Death, Says VeryDarkMan
Controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has revealed that embattled rapper, Naira Marley admitted to owing his former signee, Mohbad, a significant sum of money before the singer’s untimely death.
Speaking in a video circulating on social media ahead of what would have been Mohbad’s 28th birthday, VeryDarkMan shared insights into his conversation with Naira Marley.
He stated, “I asked Naira Marley why he is not coming out to show the public his own evidence — the business side — because he clearly owed the boy [Mohbad] some money. He told me how much he owed the boy. It’s not a small amount of money.”

According to VeryDarkMan, Naira Marley explained that their fallout stemmed from Mohbad’s decision to work outside the label’s contract and request a change in management. Despite being urged to clarify the situation publicly, Marley reportedly said, “God will fight his battles.”
This development comes amidst lingering controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death in September 2023. The late artist’s departure from Marlian Music and allegations of contract breaches had already drawn significant attention. Following his death, both Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, faced public scrutiny and legal proceedings over their alleged involvement.
Though both men pled not guilty and were granted bail, many fans have boycotted Naira Marley’s music, continuing to hold him accountable on social media.
The claims by VeryDarkMan add a new layer to the ongoing discourse, keeping the spotlight on the unresolved issues surrounding Mohbad’s death and his strained relationship with Marlian Music.
Nigerian rapper, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has initiated a N300 million fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over his alleged unlawful detention.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled January 13 for the hearing of Darlington’s case, following a request from his solicitor, Abubakar Marshal, to adjourn proceedings.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the adjournment will allow the police’s solicitor, Garba Audu, additional time to review and respond to the documents served.

This case stems from a court order issued on 23 December 2024, which directed the police to either charge Darlington or release him within 48 hours.
The court also instructed the Nigerian police to comply with the release order pending the hearing of the substantive case. Furthermore, it designated Abubakar Marshal, Esq., as a surety for Darlington.
The 39-year-old rapper was detained in Lagos over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking linked to comments he made about Burna Boy.
In his lawsuit, Darlington is seeking compensation for unlawful detention and is requesting an order for his immediate release or for him to be brought before the court.
His legal team has also alleged that he was subjected to torture and mistreatment during his detention.
