In what appears to be a demonstration of magnanimity victory, the US’s 47th president elect, Donald Trump has called on his fellow Republicans to rescue the Democrats, who appear unable to meet their financial obligations.

He bared his mind in a statement on his verified handle on micro-blogging site, X, on Sunday.

The 45th POTUS, who beat the Democrats’ flagbearer, Kamala Harris in the November 5th election, noted that they “didn’t have lots of $’s left over. Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others.”

Consequently, he called on the Republicans to, for the sake of unity do, “Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period”.

Trump wrote, “I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over. Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do.

“We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was “Earned Media,” and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Tensions are running high in Edo State as Governor-Elect Senator Monday Okpebholo alleges that outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki has disappeared from the public eye and is unresponsive just days before the state’s leadership transition.

In a statement released on Sunday, Okpebholo’s spokesperson, Godspower Inegbe, claimed Obaseki had fled Benin City on Friday under unclear circumstances, with no communication or public appearance since.

The statement alleges that Obaseki, who reportedly left the Edo Government House in an unmarked bus, dismissed staff from the premises before departing, and has since been unreachable.

“As of Friday, 8th November, Obaseki’s whereabouts remain unknown,” the statement read, accusing the governor of abandoning his responsibilities as he approaches the end of his term.

These developments follow Obaseki’s own statement on Saturday, in which he criticized Okpebholo for allegedly excluding him from the upcoming inauguration ceremony scheduled for next Tuesday.

Obaseki further questioned the legitimacy of Okpebholo’s electoral victory, claiming the mandate was “stolen.”

Okpebholo rebuffed these allegations in his Sunday response, describing them as “reckless” and asserting that Obaseki is attempting to deflect from his absence and disrupt a smooth transfer of power.

Okpebholo also expressed concerns about Obaseki’s recent actions, describing them as efforts to hinder a peaceful transition.

“Since winning the election, Obaseki has employed every means to frustrate the handover process,” Okpebholo’s statement read.

He claimed Obaseki had not extended any invitation for a formal meeting or tour of Government House, nor offered any congratulations.

The Governor-Elect further criticized Obaseki’s claims about his mandate, accusing him of trying to sway public opinion amid the ongoing tribunal case filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which is contesting Okpebholo’s September 21 electoral victory.

He expressed confidence that the tribunal will uphold his win and accused Obaseki of creating a “false narrative” to influence the proceedings.

Okpebholo warned that continued allegations from Obaseki may result in legal consequences once his immunity expires.

“Obaseki will soon face the full force of the law if he persists with these baseless claims,” Okpebholo stated, urging Edo residents to dismiss Obaseki’s comments and stand with the incoming administration as it seeks to “correct the wrongs of the outgoing government.”

Ahead of the November 12 swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the new governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially dissolved his cabinet.

Obaseki, whose eight-year tenure began on November 12, 2016, will complete his term on the same date in 2024.

The dissolution took place following a valedictory session held on Friday at the Government House in Benin City.

During the session, Obaseki expressed his gratitude to the members of the State Executive Council (SEC) for their commitment and support in realizing his administration’s vision to “make Edo great again.”

The motion to dissolve the 2020-2024 State Executive Council was put forth by Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo and seconded by Osilama Okuofu, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

Reflecting on his tenure, Obaseki praised the people of Edo for their collaboration, support, and prayers throughout his time in office.

“This has been a collective effort, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Edo State,” Obaseki stated.

During the session, members of the cabinet took the opportunity to commend the governor for his achievements across various sectors and expressed gratitude for the chance to serve the people of Edo.

Outgoing commissioners and heads of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) presented awards and tokens of appreciation to Obaseki as part of the farewell ceremony.

The valedictory session concluded with a celebratory dinner in honor of Governor Obaseki, marking the end of an era for his administration as Edo prepares for a new chapter under Governor-elect Okpebholo.
