APC Bigwigs, Okpebholo, Wike, Oshiomole Unveil New Edo Line
Three bigwigs of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), among other dignitaries, on Tuesday, in Benin City, commissioned the New Edo Line Transport Service.
Biztellers reports that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; former governor of Edo State and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Comrade Adams Oshiomole were joined by other top government dignitaries across Nigeria at the event.
Wike, who was the guest of honour insisted that high-profile Nigerians like Peter Obi need to inform the Governor of any State about his visit to ensure his security is guaranteed.

He asserted that when Obi visited him while he was the Governor of Rivers States, he secured a permit before embarking on that journey. He wondered why he did not observe the same protocol when he visited Edo State.
“I thank God for the people of Edo State for standing firm during the election of Monday Okpebholo. The Governor has prepared himself as far as I am concerned. He is focused on making sure he delivers the dividends of democracy to the people.
“The Governor refused to be distracted, and in eight months, he has done so much for Edo people. Just like what Mr. President did immediately, he was inaugurated. He hit the ground running. That is what Senator Okpebholo has done today by making sure there are no excuses.
“Assuming that the Supreme Court had ruled against him, what it would have meant is that for a few months, he showed the people of Edo that he was committed to work for them.
“I do not identify with failure. I identify with people who mean well for their people. One of the things that you have done for bringing back this new Edo line is to solve the problem of insecurity.
“You have also resolved the problem of students, women and men traveling. You have actually shown your support for our President in practical terms in performance. Your performance will give you the confidence to always come home even after your tenure as Governor.
“I have come to identify with you because you mean well for the people of Edo State. Leadership is not easy because people will throw all kinds of things at you.”
Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, which has continuously translated into growth and development for Edo people.
He commended Edo people for the opportunity given to him as their Governor and expressed readiness to serve them, as they will continue to see and experience remarkable projects that will touch their lives for the better.
Governor Okpebholo said he will continue with his developmental projects that will change Edo State and improve the lives of Edo people for the better. He promised not to be distracted with criticism coming from the social media, following his statement on Mr. Peter Obi.
He noted that his statement on Mr Peter Obi is not a threat, but advice that is meant for his own good. “What I said was to advice to him and it was never a threat.
“Do not come to Edo without telling me. This is a clear statement. I am not here to only work for Edo people but also in government to protect Edo people and visitors coming to the State.
“I only told Mr. Peter Obi to notify me as the Chief Security Officer of Edo State when coming to the State. Is that a crime?”
He recalled the incident that led to the death of one of his security details. “I remember when I came into Edo State during the administration of Godwin Obaseki.
“The Commissioner of Police asked me to remain at the Benin Airport when I arrived at Benin City, and I was attacked at the airport as one of my security guards was shot dead right in my presence.
“I had a security report and advised the former governor of Anambra State to inform me whenever he is coming to Edo State. If he likes, let him take my advice.
“I will continue to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because he loves Edo so much, and Edo people are enjoying his support, which has transformed into developmental strides,” he noted
He assured the President that in 2027, Edo State will give him 2.5 million votes to ensure he returns for a second term in office to continue his good works of development.
Dignitaries at the commissioning include the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku; Secretary to Edo State Government, Barr. Umar Musa Ikhilor; Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gani Audu; former Deputy Governors of Edo State, Pius Odubu and Lucky Imasuen; Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (rtd); Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; APC stakeholders; representatives of security agencies, market women, youths, transportation stakeholders, amongst others.

Fire Ravages Indonesia Market, Kills 11 Including Six Children
At least 11 people, including six children, have died after a fire swept through a market and surrounding buildings in Indonesia’s easternmost Papua region.
The deadly blaze broke out shortly after midnight on Monday in Paniai, Central Papua province, and quickly spread to several tightly packed shophouses and structures in the area.

According to local police spokesman Henry J. Manurung, firefighters battled the inferno for more than three hours before eventually bringing it under control.
“During the inspection, officers found 11 victims who had died with burn injuries,” Manurung said in a statement.
He said five of the victims were adults, while the other six were children aged between two and nine years.
The fire destroyed at least 40 kiosks and houses despite the deployment of fire trucks and water cannons by emergency responders.
Manurung said the tightly packed arrangement of the houses and market stalls contributed to the rapid spread of the flames and made firefighting operations more difficult.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the deadly fire.
The incident adds to a series of deadly fires recorded in Indonesia in recent years.
In December, 22 people were killed when fire swept through a seven-storey office building in Central Jakarta. Police said an exploding drone battery on the ground floor was the likely cause.
In 2023, an explosion at a nickel-processing plant in eastern Indonesia also claimed at least 12 lives.
The latest tragedy has left the Paniai community mourning as authorities continue efforts to establish what triggered the devastating blaze.

Trump Sparks Outrage With Shock Proposal to Rename New Mexico
United States President Donald Trump has sparked controversy after suggesting that New Mexico should be given a new name.

He described the proposed alternative as “more prestigious and beautiful” for what he called an “incredible State,” adding that he loved the idea.

The White House later reposted an image illustrating the proposed change, with the word “Mexico” in New Mexico’s name crossed out and replaced.
However, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham swiftly rejected the suggestion, insisting that the state’s name was not open for debate.
Speaking to Fox News, Lujan Grisham said the name had belonged to the state since before the United States existed.
She also accused Trump of seeking to distract Americans from pressing issues, including soaring gas prices.
The latest proposal is part of a broader pattern of name-change suggestions by Trump since returning to the White House.
Trump previously moved to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America shortly after beginning his second presidential term in 2025, a move rejected by Mexico.
Last week, he also suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz, although he later appeared to indicate that he was not being serious about the proposal.
Trump has additionally proposed changing the name of Lake Ontario, a move that has been rejected by Canada.
Some US media reports have suggested that the latest New Mexico name-change idea may have originated as an internet hoax before being amplified by the president.
Despite Trump’s suggestion, Governor Lujan Grisham has made clear that there is no debate over changing the state’s name.
