Bobrisky Came For Assistance To Pay For VIP Section In Prison – Falz Clarifies

Published

on

In a statement released on Tuesday, 24th September 2024, popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, has denied allegations linking him to Bobrisky’s legal troubles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This comes after a voice recording leaked by self-proclaimed activist, Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, suggested that Falz and his father, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had helped to drop money laundering charges against the controversial cross-dresser.

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was jailed for three months after pleading guilty to naira mutilation. He was arrested earlier this year by the EFCC and spent time in prison before his release on 5th August 2024.

However, the leaked audio suggests that behind the scenes, Bobrisky sought help from the legal heavyweight, Femi Falana SAN, and his son, Falz, to influence his release.

In a swift rebuttal, Falz, through a statement from Falana & Falana’s Chambers, denied any involvement in Bobrisky’s case.

According to the statement, the rapper never initiated contact with the cross-dresser while he was incarcerated. The only communication between them, Falz disclosed, was Bobrisky seeking financial assistance to the tune of N3 million to allegedly bribe officials and secure a more comfortable stay in the VIP section of the prison.

The leaked audio, which has caused a stir online, has drawn widespread attention and led to a surge of public scrutiny. In the now-viral letter, Falz also accused VeryDarkMan of publishing misleading information without verifying facts, stressing that his reputation was being unfairly tarnished by baseless allegations.

The letter stated, “Falz was never involved in any legal negotiations regarding Bobrisky’s case. The allegations are both false and misleading. The only request made by Mr. Okuneye was for financial help, which Falz declined.”

VeryDarkMan has yet to respond to the accusation of spreading unverified information, though his followers continue to engage the topic heavily on social media.

This latest controversy adds to the growing list of public disputes involving both Falz and Bobrisky. While Falz has made a name for himself as a vocal social justice advocate, often taking a stand against corruption and political injustice, Bobrisky remains one of Nigeria’s most controversial figures, known for his bold personality and clashes with authorities.

As public interest in the case grows, it remains to be seen how this latest revelation will unfold. Will VeryDarkMan offer a public apology, or will further information come to light? Either way, Falz is determined to clear his name and protect his reputation amidst this unfolding drama.

For now, all eyes remain on the three parties—Falz, Bobrisky, and VeryDarkMan—as Nigerians watch the situation closely.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju disclosed this development on Tuesday, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”

The singer’s release came after an Abuja court granted him bail. This decision followed intense public pressure on the Nigeria Police Force, which led to his arraignment.

Prior to his release, Speed Darlington had petitioned Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, over his prolonged detention. He called on the DIG to comply with a court order directing his release or formal arraignment.

Justice M.S. Liman had earlier issued an order on December 23, 2024, mandating the police to charge the singer within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.

Speed Darlington’s arrest stemmed from allegations he made against Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy. The singer accused Burna Boy of being involved in an immoral relationship with embattled U.S. rapper and music executive Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.

The situation has sparked widespread discussions, with many Nigerians expressing relief at Speed Darlington’s freedom while others continue to debate the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

Following the donation, Cubana Chief Priest clarified that Bethel Okechukwu is not his brother, stating, “I have only one biological big brother & two kid sisters. They ain’t doing so bad.” He emphasized that he is not obligated to support his siblings financially and urged the public to verify such claims.

As of now, there are no credible reports indicating that Burna Boy instructed Bethel Okechukwu to take any specific actions towards Cubana Chief Priest after receiving the $30,000. The narrative appears to be centered around Burna Boy’s charitable gesture and Cubana Chief Priest’s subsequent clarification regarding his familial relationships.
