In a show of continued generosity, Nigerian music icon, Davido has announced plans to mark his birthday this year with a ₦300 million donation to orphanages and a charity dedicated to combating drug abuse and addiction among young people.

The award-winning artist, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the announcement on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Once again, my birthday this year, we are donating to orphanages and a charity that helps young people stay away from drug abuse and addiction. This year, it’s ₦300m. Details to follow soon.”

This philanthropic gesture reinforces Davido’s long-standing commitment to giving back to society, particularly to vulnerable groups such as orphans and at-risk youth.

Davido’s track record of impactful donations highlights his dedication to supporting foster homes across Nigeria.

Earlier this year, in February, he donated ₦300 million to orphanages nationwide. In November 2021, the singer marked his 29th birthday by contributing ₦250 million to 292 orphanages.

Additionally, in July 2023, Davido extended his generosity with a ₦237 million donation to over 400 orphanages.

The superstar’s consistent acts of kindness have earned him widespread admiration, with many commending him for using his platform to create positive change.

Afrobeats sensation Ayodeji Balogun, known globally as Wizkid, has set new records on Spotify Nigeria with the release of his latest single, “Kese (Dance).”

The track, which dropped earlier this week, has already garnered an impressive 1.57 million streams on its opening day, surpassing the previous record of 1.016 million held by his collaboration with American R&B artist Brent Faiyaz, “Piece Of My Heart.”

In a monumental feat, “Kese (Dance)” has also shattered the record for the largest opening-day streams for an African song on global Spotify, amassing 2.753 million streams worldwide.

The song, which blends Wizkid’s signature Afrobeats style with a catchy danceable rhythm, is one of the lead singles from his upcoming album Morayo.

Set to release later this month, Morayo holds a special significance for the artist, as he has dedicated the album to his late mother, Mrs. Morayo Jane Balogun.

Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina has made history by emerging as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City on Sunday.

The event, which featured contestants from 126 countries, concluded with Denmark’s Victoria Kjaer Theilvig winning the coveted crown, succeeding Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

The final moments of the pageant saw an intense face-off between Adetshina and Theilvig, as the two stood poised to claim the prestigious title.

The issue, which centered on her nationality, did not deter her ambitions. Shortly after, she competed in and won the Miss Universe Nigeria title, representing Taraba State, and secured her spot on the global stage.

Adetshina’s performance in Mexico has been hailed as exceptional, with her grace and charisma earning accolades from judges and audiences alike.
