EndBadGovernance Protests: Court Sets N10m Bail Each For 67 Minors
In a landmark decision, Justice Obiora Egwuatu has granted bail to 67 minors arrested during the August 2024 “End Bad Governance” protests.
The minors, all under 15 years old, were among 76 young protesters arraigned for allegedly participating in nationwide demonstrations spurred by economic hardship.

Bail was set at N10 million for each minor, with the requirement of one civil servant as a surety.
The protests, which ran from August 1 to 10, saw citizens in multiple cities—including Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano—demanding government reforms and relief from economic struggles.
The 76 detained minors and young adults were part of larger demonstrations that swept across the country, sparking widespread debate on governance, accountability, and economic justice.
In addition to the minors, another 87 adult protesters, predominantly from Kaduna State, are currently being arraigned on severe charges including treason and conspiracy to commit a felony with intent to destabilize Nigeria. The charges, according to court records, fall under Sections 96 and 97 of the Penal Code, which deal with treasonable offenses. If convicted, the penalties could be severe.
Inside the courtroom, the young defendants appeared frail, with several looking visibly malnourished. Four minors, reportedly too weak to stand, had to be assisted out of the courtroom for medical attention, underscoring the difficult conditions they’ve faced since their detention.
This case highlights both the scale of frustration within Nigeria and the complex response by authorities. With economic conditions at the heart of the protests, the fate of these young protesters is being closely watched as a barometer of how Nigeria’s judicial and political systems handle widespread calls for change.

Davido Is Richer Than His Billionaire Father – Ibrahim Chatta Claims
Renowned Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta, has sparked conversation by claiming that award-winning singer Davido is richer and more influential than his billionaire father, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke.
Chatta made this statement while addressing the importance of respecting individuals in positions of authority, regardless of their age. He argued that accomplishments, not age, determine who an elder is. Using historical references, Chatta cited Alexander the Great, who achieved incredible feats before his death at 33, as an example of youthful greatness.
“God purposely placed some certain people in some positions, but you guys are looking at their age. It’s not about the age; any younger person that possesses things that belong to elders, is an elder,” Chatta said.
The actor emphasized that Davido’s wealth and influence surpass those of his father, despite Dr. Adeleke’s established status as a billionaire. Chatta highlighted the global recognition and adoration Davido commands, describing the singer as someone who garners immense loyalty and admiration.
“I was just looking at the numbers of people surrounding Davido the day I sat with him, I was just seeing how people were ready to be killed just to get to him. He is an elder. Davido’s father is a billionaire that has been doing big things before the singer’s arrival. His father is rich but not as Davido. If his dad is passing by, you might not recognise him, but if Davido passes here, a stampede will happen.”
Chatta’s remarks have stirred reactions across social media, with many debating whether fame and influence should outweigh wealth in defining success.
