Iyabo Ojo Shares Updates On Mohbad’s Death Investigation

Published

Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has revealed that the Nigeria Police Force is still awaiting the results of a toxicology test following the autopsy performed on Nigerian singer Mohbad, who tragically passed away on September 12, 2023.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, October 17, Ojo shared that Mohbad’s case has now been handed over to the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

She also mentioned that, despite the passage of time since his exhumation in September, the late singer’s remains have not yet been released.

Furthermore, Ojo highlighted that the surveillance cameras in Mohbad’s residence were never operational, leaving no video evidence to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his demise.

She further revealed, “Mohbad’s wife has been interrogated three times to the best of my knowledge. Two out of the three times was the day you all saw Mohbad’s dad televised by the police in which they addressed the public on Mohbad’s case. Later that same day, Mohbad’s dad, mum and wife were sent to Panti for interrogation and to write their statements. Another day, Mohbad’s wife was interrogated was the 21st of September 2023 — reason why Tonto and Senator Ishaku Abbo met her absences.”

Mohbad’s sudden and mysterious death in September sparked peaceful protests nationwide demanding for the police to investigate. Nigerians demanded that an autopsy be carried out and the police did just that after exhuming his body from his grave in Ikorodu.

Even though the police declared that the singer died due to the reactions from three injections he was given by an auxiliary nurse, Nigerians still await some results from the autopsy carried out including the toxicology report.

After questioning over 20 people, the police have pinpointed five suspects in Mohbad’s case: Feyisayo Ogendengbe, the nurse who administered injections; Ayobami Sadiq, aka Spending, the singer’s friend who invited the nurse; Owodunni Ibrahim, aka Primeboy, who had a prior altercation; and Naira Marley and Sam Larry, accused of bullying and assault by the singer before his death.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju disclosed this development on Tuesday, stating on X (formerly Twitter), “Speed Darlington is out of Kuje Prison.”

The singer’s release came after an Abuja court granted him bail. This decision followed intense public pressure on the Nigeria Police Force, which led to his arraignment.

Prior to his release, Speed Darlington had petitioned Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, over his prolonged detention. He called on the DIG to comply with a court order directing his release or formal arraignment.

Justice M.S. Liman had earlier issued an order on December 23, 2024, mandating the police to charge the singer within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.

Speed Darlington’s arrest stemmed from allegations he made against Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy. The singer accused Burna Boy of being involved in an immoral relationship with embattled U.S. rapper and music executive Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.

The situation has sparked widespread discussions, with many Nigerians expressing relief at Speed Darlington’s freedom while others continue to debate the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

In early January 2025, Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy fulfilled a promise by gifting $30,000 to Bethel Okechukwu, a phone repairer from Alaba Market who had claimed to be related to socialite Cubana Chief Priest.

This act of generosity occurred amid an ongoing feud between Burna Boy and the Cubana Chief Priest.

Following the donation, Cubana Chief Priest clarified that Bethel Okechukwu is not his brother, stating, “I have only one biological big brother & two kid sisters. They ain’t doing so bad.” He emphasized that he is not obligated to support his siblings financially and urged the public to verify such claims.

As of now, there are no credible reports indicating that Burna Boy instructed Bethel Okechukwu to take any specific actions towards Cubana Chief Priest after receiving the $30,000. The narrative appears to be centered around Burna Boy’s charitable gesture and Cubana Chief Priest’s subsequent clarification regarding his familial relationships.
