#JusticeForIkem: Philippines Police Press Murder Charges Against Chinese Suspects

Published

on

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has filed murder cases against six Chinese citizens, suspected to be the culprits in the brutal killing of a Nigerian medical student, Chibuikem Emmanuel, in that country.

Biztellers gathered that on Tuesday, the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) filed murder cases against the six Chinese nationals, for allegedly slaughtering the Nigerian, who died on October 21.

A Philippines-based media outfit, Cebu Daily News, reported that Deputy City Director, Administration & Spokesperson, MCPO, Lieutenant Colonel Franco Oriol, said, they were able to identify four of the six Chinese allegedly involved and murder charges were being pressed against them.

Oriol said, “According to the witness, the Nigerian national refused to work there on the job that he was given, and the Chinese allegedly suspected him of sexually harassing one of their co-workers.”

He added that Police witnesses, averred that “the Nigerian was mauled in the other room.”

The allegations of sexual offences are being strongly denied by those familiar with the matter.

They have made it clear that it was a work related dispute for which the Chinese took the laws into their hands by overpowering the late Ikem and forcing him into a bus under the guise of taking him to the Police Station.

An X user, @sunstarcebu warned that Nigerian citizens will not keep mute and see the narrative skewed against the deceased, alleging that the Police were pandering towards the Chinese after being induced with money.

The tweet read, “Nigerians will not sit down and watch you change narratives to suit your Chinese relationship agenda, I don’t care how much you were paid …. Go back now and put the right information.”

On his part, @michaelojuola confirmed the arrest of the suspects and urged the authorities to do the right thing, wondering how the late Ikem could have gotten involved in a sexual offence, with his Philippine girlfriend right at the scene.

He tweeted, “You have them with you. How can someone whose “Filipino” girlfriend was on the scene, sexually assault another woman?

“How can job payment argument switch to sexual assault? You claim (that) he was handed over to the police by some group of Chinese, where are the group of Chinese?”

He decried the efforts of those involved to muddle up the case and called on the highest authorities to look into the matter.

“We demand open and fair hearings as court process kick starts.

“We implore the office of the President of the Philippines to look into this matter!,” he wrote.

He urged Nigerian citizens to join the fight for #JusticeForIkem by speaking up.

“Nigerians, let’s make this get to the government officials of the Philippines. Let’s retweet and tag every necessary official of the Philippines until #JusticeForIkem is secured,” he added.

Nigeria@66: ‘You Wrecked Livelihoods’ — Sowore Fires Back at Tinubu

Published

on

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy.

Sowore reacted to Tinubu’s Independence Day address to Nigerians on Thursday, in which the President defended his administration’s economic reforms while acknowledging the hardship associated with them.

In a post on X, Sowore accused Tinubu’s “subsidy is gone” policy of worsening the economic situation for millions of Nigerians.

“Of course, your ‘subsidy is gone’ policy brought millions of Nigerians to their knees,” Sowore wrote.

He alleged that the policy had “wrecked livelihoods” and driven up the cost of transportation, food and other basic necessities.

“You wrecked livelihoods, drove up the cost of transportation, food, and basic necessities, and deepened an already devastating cost-of-living crisis,” he said.

Sowore further argued that economic reforms should not be described as progress if they leave Nigerians facing hunger and poverty.

“You cannot reform people into hunger, poverty, and desperation and call it progress,” he added.
His post ended with the hashtag #TinubuMustGo.
